I crossed the two year point in my Verizon contract in March '05. I did nothing, just kept using my phone. What is my status likely now - just month to month? They don't push a new contract automatically unless you take some action do they?

Wanted to feel it out before I contact them. Tnx.

Yes he was....well, its all about were you live, so its possible he wasn't lying, but I love their service in NJ

Yeah people need to be very careful making broad service generalties with cell phone providers.

I have used them all and the only one worth using where I live is AT&T/Cingular. The rest of them are horrific. Yet I know people in other places who have the reverse experience.

So just broadly claiming one provider has better service or reliability than another is just not accurate. For the most part it varies greatly within a providers own network.

I have a buddy on AT&T and he is reasonably happy with it. I tend to get more bars than him in the Los Angeles area, and when ever I am at his place I tend to get reception when he does not.

Didn't some big magazine a while ago put AT&T's least dropped calls theory to test saying that they never heard of the company that did the tests. Then they went on to do a comparison of a few cellphone providers, in terms of service, quality and receptions? Wan't AT&T near the bottom of that list with Alltell being rated the best VZW and Sprint in middle with some regional carrier(forget where T-mobile was)?

She asked if I was aware that AT&T was going to charge a monthly fee to use the iPod feature of the iPhone. No, I said.. I've not heard such a thing from any source. She said, indeed, this is the case, and T-Mobile is happy to offer several music phones without a fee levied to use the music player.

Well, it seems as though this CSR was correct.

I posted this another thread but thought it was worth cross posting....

I ran in to this too this evening. It took my mentioning "cancel contract" to be gotten to a live person. Instead of not available...

Spent close to 1 1/12 on the phone with them in a decent two way conversation. They did not try to bash the iPhone. They listened to my needs and desires. For my real needs, it was decided that a Moto Q at $50 or the Mogul at $350 (IIRC) might be good choices for my needs (I am willing to live with my Video iPod, iPod Nano, or iPod Shuffle for music - have no interest in the video aspect really), which are internet data via the phone.

They were also offering me the Sprint Sero plan (http://sprint.p.delivery.net/m/p/sprint/epc/epclanding.asp) which includes unlimited SMS thru the end of the month. $30 a month for 500 minutes, nights/weekends starting at 7PM, and unlimited data.

They really did try hard to get me to commit to a phone and a plan tonight. Just was not ready to sign in blood for two years without looking at the phones in detail. Might have jumped if they could promise me the Moto Q 2 phone that is due to ship next month. :)

Or if they could have given me the Mogul at the same Amazon price of the 8525. :D When I hinted at that, they mentioned the speed advantage of the EV-DO network over the Edge network.

All in all a great call about my concerns about missed calls, and delayed voice mails. Maybe the iPhone will long term make the rest of the carriers commit to serving concerns better in the future.

i'm on sprint now, I'll be leaving but my mom and brothers won't be, so Im gonna see what i can do and what i can pull to see if i can get them some sweet deals.
