DLSS is like fake big silicone implants. Not saying nobody cares and I'm sure a few might but I don't care. I buy GPUs that have performant rasterization so I don't have to enable fake DLSS.

You know that all Big Navi GPUs will support FSR, yes?

Have 6800, 6900xt and 3090 FE here all MSRP.
You already have three cards that already/will support machine learning super sampling.

And that it's something you can turn off, yes?

Judging by your comments it appears you are not aware of either.

I see you have deliberately ignored the part about DLSS coming in various quality modes. Perhaps you have no answer for that, especially after I likened it to every other graphics feature slider.

Denial won't make it disappear nor will it make you right. Go read some Tom's Hardware or PC Gamer reviews.

One thing for sure, if you turn ray-tracing on, you will lose 15-20 fps maybe more.

That said, neither Nvidia nor AMD care whether or not you use their machine learning super sampling technology or their cards' RT cores. If worshipping on the altar of pure 3D rasterization makes you happy, good for you. But if you can't see the benefits of ray-tracing (an old technology) one might wonder how discerning your eyes really are.

6700xt rasterization performance slots in between 3070 and 3060ti
Unless you want ray tracing then the 6700xt is a solid GPU that as you mentioned is a tad faster then the 3070

The bigger problem as I see it is, why are AMD and Nvidia rolling out so many new models when they do not have the ability to keep cards in stock with existing models.

I have said this before repeatedly: the primary responsibility of a publicly held corporation is to increase shareholder value. These large tech firms need to innovate because if they don't, their competitors will.

Note that they are still making very large profits. The biggest roadblock right for individuals is that AMD and NVidia have prioritized OEMs and large system builders.

My guess is that AMD also has written agreements to provide a certain number of chips for both Xbox Series and PS5 to Microsoft and Sony respectively.

While I am no cryptocurrency expert, it appears that Nvidia GPUs are preferred by miners. Likely the ETH mining software uses the Nvidia circuitry better than AMD which would make sense since Nvidia has a long headstart on AMD in terms of machine learning.

If the Radeon and GeForce GPUs are roughly the same in price on the open market and Nvidia has better ETH hash performance-per-dollar, why buy AMD?

As I pointed out before, the ETH hash performance-per-dollar on the lower-end GPUs is actually better than the high-end cards. There are tables that show the estimated time for a GPU to pay itself off via ETH mining and the ones that do so earliest are mostly low-end cards.

It's frustrating for consumers but it's not like Nvidia can say "We give up. We're headed to Cabo for a year and we'll resume innovating in Q3 2022."

Look at how much CPU ground Intel gave up to AMD by fumbling the ball.

There is one way to get the latest video card now but it would not work for everyone. Not even sure if it is worth it.

If I really needed a video card I would do it but only if I had no other option.

No nothing wrong if you may ask lol.

Nice thread. Enjoy learning from folks clearly smarter than I. Also nice to live vicariously through those completing builds since I'm in gaming rig assembly purgatory
I allowed my youngest son to start using my old rig as his primary gaming PC. Naturally resulted in some conflict as to who can play when (easily but not so happily solved by the "I'm your father, and I paid for and assembled this computer" tactic). I was accumulating items for a new build, but alas, I procrastinated before I got around to getting a card. And now, here I am wondering how much of a markup I can pay and still respect myself - and keep my wife from killing me.
After realizing I had waited too long, I even looked at the "clever" idea of getting something older like a 1660 super / 1660 Ti as a temporary GPU until things calmed down in a few months. Yes, I know, that idea was a real winner on multiple levels.
So guess I continue the battle for screen time I created and wait for 2022, or getting lucky in the interim. That said, I do have that old GTX 660Ti gathering dust somewhere! Maybe i can switch it out with the 1080 on old PC my son uses. He'll never notice as he's playing CS Go and Valorant.......😆

My xfx rx 580 died and it took down the new build, which wouldn’t boot until I removed the old card. Now, what to replace it with?

I can buy the same old tech for double what I paid or get a newer model for $1,000.

Even thought about buying a new system for the gpu. Any suggestions for cards that play doom eternal or MSFS?

This was one of the main reasons I bought my XPS. I could not find a powerful graphics card for a reasonable amount of money. So I bought one that came in a nice modern case. I will upgrade the rest of the XPS as needed instead of building a system around a card.

MSFS is harder but Doom Eternal runs like butter on anything halfway modern. You might be able to get your hands on something like a 1050Ti or 1650 for not too much money but, they wouldn't represent an upgrade over the 580 you had previously.

It took about a month but I managed to get a 3070 FE after a 3080 FE slipped through my fingertips (darn 2 factor authentication). Still aiming for a 3080 since I plan on upgrading my monitor from 4k 60 to 4k 144hz the second the LG Ultragears come back in stock as well.

Honestly because of the current environment, notebooks don't represent wholly bad values - especially if you buy a prior-year model with something like a 2070 Super mobile which gets you broadly similar performance to a desktop 2060.

I think the easiest way to get current GPU's at msrp is if you live by a Microcenter. I was able to buy an RTX 3090 and 3070 within couple days last year. A few weeks ago, I had to replace my monitor at Microcenter, and they had a decent amount of RTX 3060's, 3080's, and AMD 6000 series cards. Also, there is a YouTube change that has Live In-Stock alerts for RTX 30 and AMD RX 6000 series cards. In the description there is a discord where you can sign up for alerts when stock drops... just click on the link and add to cart. Still not easy or a guarantee, but my co-worker was able to get an EVGA RTX 3060 ti Ultra through the discord last week. The Alert video seems to work... because when I heard a Best Buy drop was going to happen through their discord... I watched the YouTube vid alerts change to "In-Stock", I was able to add an RTX 3070 card into cart... but I didn't need a card. BTW... EVGA's queue system only works if you are able to get in the queue with in the first 30 mins... and that could still be months of waiting.

I decided to take the video card, and blow it out with a duster and clean the contacts. I updated the bios on the system board to the latest version, made sure the system could boot into windows. Then shut it down and installed the old graphics card and the system booted.

So at this point system is working fine, but I don't trust it completely and still don't know if there is an issue with the system board, video card or power supply.

At least I don't have to be ripped off for an over-priced and under-specced video card; for now.

Amazing what cleaning out dust, and updating bios and drivers can do. It could end up good, or turn for the worse. Glad it's up and running.

My 13 year old's fairly new rig kept shutting down.. first thought is the power supply... but since it an ax1200 gold, it had plenty for his RTX 3070. I updated bios, drivers, even did a fresh install of windows. Turned it on, and it shuts down. Funny thing was... when it shutdown, my oldest comes in the room and he said his lights flickered when reacted to the shutdown. I went to his room and his light was flicking when we turned on the computer again. Ended up being a florescent style bulb in his dimmer style lamp. Took out the bulb, and the computer ran fine for a few weeks... then started shutting down again. Replaced the power supply, and it's been running great ever since. If your power supply is old... maybe it would be a good upgrade.

Oh.. btw... that Stock alert YouTube channel discord I mentioned on last post. My co-worker friend scored a EVGA RTS 3070 xc3 Ultra this morning through the YouTube channel and Discord alerts.

Thank you for that informative post. I will have to review the youtube video later (after the work day).

My "rig" is connected to a decent UPS. Any external component that requires an external power supply is also connected to the UPS.

The entire build is new. I started purchasing components in October, system went live in November. There is no component, except the video card that is older than 5 months.

Newegg shuffle has some 3060’s. I threw my hat in the ring even though I just put a 6900xt in my computer.

Your build is as old as mine... and I consider it brand new. It is a frustrating time as far as finding current GPUs. Glad you are looking into ways of getting a card... either through that YouTube/discord or the NewEgg shuffle. When I needed a card... so I found a way get one. Just have to find a way and look at options... and it will eventually happen. Another tip my friend mentioned about the discord.. is he only paid attention to Best Buy drops which seem to have the most success rate. They will announce drops in advance... so make sure you are logged in on Best Buy's website prior to drop, have your saved items ready to refresh, and make sure your have your payment saved in your profile for quick checkout... hope this helps... and I hope you get a GPU soon!!!
