absolutely 100% agree with you, the notes sync is a potential problem for apple if ios9 and El Cap are released separately.

Unless they were to offer an Yosemite notes update.?

It's not an issue. You have the option to upgrade notes to the new format or leave them in the existing format when you start the app. Leave them in the old format and upgrade if/when you install El Capitan on your Macs etc.

are okay thanks, I upgraded notes in ios , as I'm sure many will on Wednesday. But I'll now have to updrade to El Cap if I want notes to work again on my Mac Book Pro by the looks of it.

It is an issue.
do you think Everybody who upgrades OS 9 on the 16th will leave them in existing format? How about the new fresh installs which don't have an option.

my personal view is that most people will upgrade to the new ios notes, I think its a potential mess, apple should release a Yosemite notes upgrade till El Cap is released on the 30th
or release ios & el cap together.

It doesn't matter if it's an update or setup up as new. The notes app is linked to your iCloud account. If you have a device still using the old format it warns you when you upgrade.

The situation is no different from the Photos app last year. Apple are not going to release a Yosemite notes upgrade for the sake of 14 calendar days.

I can't believe it was a mistake but the email seemed to be real including the "internal information only".
It was meant to be seen, and I am sure everyone watching saw it. As it was basically an iOS event, it was a way to informally and funny include the launch of new OS X as well.

after backing up to TC etc will I be able to just update on the 30th? and all my setting etc will be the same?

Also I'm new to Mac os- is El Cap very similar to Yosemite (which I love). Or will I have to start relearning all over again?

I guess its similar with a few minor tweeks/ 'improvements', is that right?

Also is it OS X 10.11 El Capitan the name?

Why isn't it OS X 11 or 12 El Capitan?

thanks

This is an odd release date as new iOS 9 users (released on the 16th) won't have any sync compatibility with notes that needs to be upgraded on el capitan which is released 2 weeks after!

I would of thought iOS and OS X would be released at the same time so everything is very seamless/Apple, full user experience, etc etc

I agree it's not very user friendly, however the Notes App on iOS and OS X will prompt you if you have devices that need to be upgraded, warn you it won't be compatible and offers you the option to run Notes in it's original format until you're ready to upgrade. So there shouldn't be too many issues.

Edit: Just saw someone beat me too this.

I've been running the beta for a couple of days now and it's pretty rock stable minus a few issues like the quicktime plugin which is a pretty odd bug if you ask me... "and you can't just go download quicktime as it's built in."

If I had to guess 10.11 should be released in October as the last 2 major versions of OS X have been in October with Mountain Lion being wierd in July. Most versions were released in September and October with a few in the early months so September 30th isn't a bad guess but I'd wager on 2nd week of October as a better release date.
