I thought you were gonna leap to the folding iPhone?
I am very interested, (as you know!) But although I could afford it, I don't think it would be a sensible decision for me to spend £2000+ on a phone. I can imagine the only time I would actually open it would be in that wasteful window of time between getting into bed and going to sleep. Otherwise the front screen would be plenty of me.

I spend most of my day at a computer and all I really want is a small phone that I can type one handed with. The offset keyboard will be critical with this thing.

Wow, that's super interesting. Given your work, I just assumed you were going to pre-order. 😄

I'm going to trade in my iPhone 17 and use $400 that I have currently in my Apple Account balance. Plus, if I want to get version 2.0, I'm assuming (hoping) Apple will give me a good sum for version 1.0 next year.

It's also interesting that you see yourself only using it during that time of day/night. I can see myself using it often in a ton of scenarios personally. But everyone uses their devices differently.

A short and wide iPhone slab device would satisfy that small but passionate mini fanbase.

I love it and hate it at the same time.

Love that when folded it'll be relatively compact in your pocket, and the wide (rather than tall) screen when folded looks good.

But the obvious main draw of this phone is being able to open it up for the larger screen. When your out and and about that's just not going to be practical. It's not the type of phone you can quickly whip out to check something unless you stick to the small scree for those kinds of things.

Still undecided, will wait for the announcement and pricing but it'll either by a 18PM or the Fold.

Going to be interesting to see how case makers deal with this. It's strange to think when you have it in the open position with the larger screen you'll be holding the screen on the other side. You're always going to have glass/screen against a surface if you use it on a table un-folded.

So this one has me confused. These are screen protectors for the front screen of the foldable. The privacy version shows a cutout in the top right corner. So let’s speculate that this is true, it would mean the front face camera would be in that position.

If you would open the foldable, the internal camera could not be in the same location as there is no room internally to stack 2 cameras. So it would not be in the top left corner of the inside screen. It could also not be in the top right corner of the internal screen as there would be the camera plateau on the back.

I really hope Apple is not going for the Samsung solution with putting the camera at 25% of the internal screen as that looks terrible and interferes with the UI in different orientations. I’d rather have it even in the bottom left or right hand corner, although I don’t see that happen.

It’s funny that with all the leaks it is still not clear where the 2 front facing cameras will be. In my opinion the best solution would be: outside screen - middle, internal screen - top left.

I find these new details kind of exciting, mostly to see how close (or not) I got to it. Interesting to see what shakes out in the next few weeks

Yeah me too! I would actually like it if the screen was asymmetrical, just so that Apple would do something different to what everyone else is doing. But I don't see that happening. So the front facing cameras are still unclear for both screens and if the outer screen is going to be rounded on the hinge side or not. It wouldn't surprise me if they do it like the MacBook. The orientation is different but still, nobody expected a notch with the iPhone X, everyone thought they would black out the sides in software.

Regarding the cameras, these options don't seem possible as that would mean they would have to stack cameras on top of each other, which is not possible in a 4.5mm thin chassis:

So that would leave these options as the most logical ones:

It would actually not be that weird to have the internal camera in the middle of the shortest side as the iPad Mini has its camera there too.

So you bring up something very interesting. In my brief time with foldables, I also found this to be true when I did not use a case. Just did not like feeling that screen in my left hand.

But...

I found that a case would pretty much eliminate the problem. The frame covering the front is what you feel in your hand instead.

Do you guys mean that you are just used to feeling a case on the back side of your devices and missing that feeling on a foldable because the front screen will be exposed when opened?
I never have a case on my phones, so for instance on my iPhone Air the front and back feel exactly the same and I expect the foldable when opened to feel exactly the same on the left and right part as one continuous piece of glass.

I've used phones in the past case-less as well. I still very much notice a screen when it sits in the palm of my hand with an open foldable. I personally find it a bit unpleasant.

Think this is much ado about nothing. Most case makers or people in general will have a kickstand to avoid the glass/screen laying against a flat surface/table (at least, that’s what I do).
