That's right! AMD9520Controller and AMDRadeonX42000 are the new kexts in 10.12.6 Beta 3 which have full support for RX 580. This GPU shares its PCI ID with RX 470, 480, and 570.

Question : Not meaningful hacks since RX480 OOTB in 10.12.6, but i wonder to if want fix cosmetics stuff like 'R9 XXX' I'm still required to edit AMD9510Controller in 10.12.6 right?

also, current 10.13 beta still displaying R9 XXX.

Yes, unless you buy this specific card which is the one included in Apple's eGPU dev kit and for which they have made the edits for already. This model correctly displays in About this Mac.

SAPPHIRE Pulse Radeon RX 580 8G GDDR5 Dual HDMI/DVI-D/Dual DP Graphics Card - Black

See here for details: #470

Hi, how do u identify the model? Is it enough that it is Pulse version? I see all the links with the high price and here it seems to be cheaper.

High Sierra and beyond should recognise the GPU and name it accordingly in system information. If it doesn't please report it as a bug. Even Linux can read graphic card info. Your feedback and pressure is really important.

So I'm hearing that High Sierra just removed RX460 support, does anyone know if it also removed RX480 support???

it's looks AMD vega running without hassle too in High Sierra.

But i wonder it would running safely in cheese grater tower with normal PCIe power connector, usual pixlas mod likely are safe to test Vega in 2010-2012 tower since Vega is very power hungry, even worse than GTX 1080.

Well, currently those setup are probably suitable for modern hardware ( hackintosh ) right now or mac with TB3 eGPU, honestly I'm glad 16 GB VRAM finally comes true for Mac.

IMO, according to this review.

Vega 56 is OK, but 64 is not (only power by dual mini 6pins).

That table indicate TOTAL system power consumption. By considering modern GPU usually draw about 15W during idle. Let assume there are 70W draw from the rest of the system during Furmark test (in fact, this is a safe estimation, because CPU will also draw more than idle). Vega 56 draw just below 250W under Furmark. That's a bit outside the cMP official mini 6pins + PCIe power limit, but well within the practical limit. However, Vega 64 is way outside the power envelope, only Pixlas mod, of assist by SATA power is possible.

There's no drivers for RX Vega in 10.12. 10.13 is a different story. My contact at Mantiz tried it in an TB3 enclosure and it was plug and play with High Sierra. That means the RX Vega cards should work in cMP without any kext edits.

The drivers are not very good yet. The card behaves similar to how the RX 480 was last summer when Sierra was in beta.

I seem to recall you stating the RX460 was working in High Sierra; can you confirm and, if so, which brand card?

Thanks!

Has anyone been getting strange hangs on 10.13 in some graphical or animation scenarios?

Disregard the above question about the RX 480. It's working great in High Sierra.

Strange. I can't get an RX480 to boot in High Sierra. Even with a 2600XT EFI helper, it hangs with the following.

IOConsoleUsers time(0) 0->0, Lin 0, llk1,
IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, hs 0, bs 0, now 0, sm 0x0

What voodoo did you use to get around this? It was working GREAT in Sierra.

Hi guys,

what about High Sierra... can I update using a USB drive without risking a no screen issue during the installation process?
I'm actually running 10.12.6 on a mid 2012 Mac Pro with an RX 480 card.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but I need your help.

I have a cMP 3,1, with high sierra dosdude1 patch and I'm trying to install a rx580 Sapphire Nitro.
When installing high sierra's patch, theres an option to enable AMD 5xxx 6xxx and 7xxx compatibility.

If I enable that, my rx580 will work, but very laggy, almost unusable.
If I do not enable, the mac will completely freeze.

After changing the radeon for an hd2600 and booting up the mac, I do encounter that I do not have AMD9520Controller and AMDRadeonX42000 kext files, but AMD9500 and AMDRadeonX4000.

After I add 0x67DF1002 to AMD9500 and AMDRadeonX4000 and use kext utility, changing again to the rx580, and booting up, it will hang up again with a grey screen and that's it.

In the words of princess Leia Organa, Help me ObiWan Kenobi, you're my only hope

That card should work out of the box in high sierra... right? No patch should be used for the system to recognize it.
