RX 480 in 5.1 Mac Pro through bootcamp?

Hmm, how odd.
Would it be possible to launch straight into Windows 10 bootcamp or OSX using the 480, without the 5770 in there?
Or does the original card have to be in there?

So you can't boot into Windows 10 without having the 5770 in there? Is that right?
Works fine in my Windows 7 as well, in slot 4 (x4, overlapping into the HDD bays 2,3,4). R9 270X in slot 1 as primary, R9 280X external on x1 for boot selection/bitlocker.
Windows 10 does not install via bootcamp (black screen) and i did not think of it as RX480 related but might be the case; need to test.
As expected with a second card on the internal PSU (in my case the R9 270X on the 2 6pin and the RX480 on DVD bay power) the Mac turns off if both run at 100% load (rail draw 180+170W/350W or 29A @ 12V) - a lower level load actually works due to the rather low TDP of both (270X+290X nearly immediately turns off a Mac Pro in load tests).

You can't flash an RX480 (at least now). You need a second, supported, card for the selection and encryption (if any).

They just work? No need for a UEFI GPU card to run the screen? Do you also get the full boot sequence just the RX 480?

Which of those cards goes to the screen? I've heard that if you use the 5770 to drive the screen you get the full boot sequence and you can use the RX 480 to do the graphic computing. Is there any chance that AMD might come out with a MacOs drive for the RX 480?

The 5770 is what came with my Mac Pro so it's the one showing boot screen. I've been able to successfully boot with a single and dual RX 480 into both MacOS and Windows 10. Same result when pairing 5770 with GTX 980 Ti.

Why do you need the standard Apple card to drive the screen if the 480 works fine by itself?
Is a boot screen required or can boot into OS X or Windows without it?

I did the same and my RX480 was not recognized as well. The AMD/ATI drivers wouldn't install since they didn't find any compatible AMD graphic card.
However, the RX480 was listed as a Microsoft Compatible Graphic Card (or something similar) in the device manager. I updated its driver to the one included in the AMD drivers (in the Crimson Drivers\Packages\Drivers\Display folder) and it worked ! Then it restarted and both graphic cards started working correctly.
I haven't been able to make both graphic cards work together in MacOS Sierra. If the 5770 is present, the 480 won't get Metal support (after modifying the radeon4000.kext file), but it works if I disconnect the 5770. Any idea on what could be the problem?
I haven't been able to get 5K resolution in macos... my Dell 2715K is detected as two separated displays... any advise??

I'm glad you were able to manually install the drivers for RX 480 in Windows. I tried that too but Windows crashed.
MacOS is a different story when you have the 5770 paired with RX 480. You've gotten much further than I did. My Mac Pro could not even boot up to the desktop with these 2 GPUs together.
This is after all a hack to get RX 480 to work in MacOS. I hope the GM version will have newer and better drivers.

Did you tried to install the drivers of the path that I posted?
Maybe the difference in our setups is the slots in which the graphic cards are inserted. I guess mine at that time was the 5770 in the first one (the one meant for the graphic card) and the RX480 was at the 4th (the last one in which if fits before the hard drive slots).
