S7 - Finally good enough to switch for good.

I owned an S6 Edge for a while. The main problem - it was a carrier model. Also the battery was pretty crap and the performance wasn't really anything special. I sold that phone and went back to my iphone 6.

Recently purchased an unlocked G930F off ebay. Black Onyx S7.

This is honestly the best phone I've ever laid my hands on. It does everything perfectly and really feels like a breath of fresh air after using iPhone for well over 7 years.

Android's polish is finally able to compete neck and neck with iPhone in the mainstream. I say mainstream because I'm sure Android has been great for a lot of people for a long time now. It just didn't have that completely polished feel. I will also say that the vast majority of current generation Android phones are just not for me.

The iPhone will always be the better newb-friendly device because it does things fairly straight forward. That's just the thing though. After using an S7 as my main phone, the iPhone feels like a pretty outdated device in a lot of ways. I still have my iPhone 6 sitting on my desk but I have no desire to ever pick it up.

I like the 10 as well and thought about getting it, but am not a fan of LCD. I'm sure HTC will get updated 10x quicker than Samsung phones though, and I do like that the interface is more vanilla Android.

You can't go wrong with the HTC 10 though. Lovely phone and near flawless in every way.

How is the camera on it ? My last HTC was the One M7. Good phone but the camera cr*pped out and started to take pictures with a purple tint. After sales was really bad. After a lot of to and fro, they agreed to replace my phone with a brand new one and the new one, promptly started to take purple tinted pics soon after.

I recently took delivery of my new HTC 10. I must say that after following its development closely I knew it would be good... BUT this smartphone is absolutely fantastic! Fast and smooth, trouble free and very efficient, it's so close to as good as my favorite and primary smartphone it's amazing.

If not for my Nexus 6P being pure Google, I'd rate the HTC as its equal. Yet that said I can easily understand that for many users the HTC would be their favorite... It's that fantastic!

For Apple's sake I hope they can catch up a bit with the upcoming full size iPhone. The competition is leaving them in the dust. But luckily so far, people are still interested in the Apple logo and how they're perceived. Ego centric buyers are Apple's biggest advantage.

I'm guessing you have the US carrier version with the Snapdragon... from what I remember, the international version with the Exynos performed significantly better.

What do you feel the iPhone and iOS is outdated compared to the S7 and Android? Being yourself a long time iOS user I find it interesting you now see the iPhone and iOS as way outdated compared to Android.

When considered on a purely product v product, it's not even in the top 5 anymore. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. It's only the SHAME of buying an android phone that keeps.apple buyers locked in.

No I think it's just iOS that makes people buy. It's familiar and easy to use. That and good build.

And there's surprisingly little shame in buying an Android phone. Pretty much all my friends own iPhones, and when I got my Galaxy last year, nobody really said anything. If anything, they were surprised as to how good it was. As long as you aren't one of those guys who is always saying 'my phone has a much higher resolution than yours', or 'Android phones have had that for 3 years', you should be all right.

I'd wager you are in a minority. Mud sticks, changing folks mindsets doesn't happen overnight. I've actually seen with my own eyes, someone with a 4/4s go to someone with a S7 edge, my retina display dumps all over your Android POS lol, you couldn't make it up.

Trust me, the marketing was so strong and believable in the early days that the public perception really takes some beating. And that's why you read folk saying they will skip the ip7 and get the ip7s, 2 years down the line and they know what they are buying regardless of what else is out there becuase they have been conditioned to believe everything else is still on a par with a Nokia 3210. Crazy I know...

I think that's too cynical. Yes, Apple continues to benefit from the momentum it gained by being the first to make a truly great smartphone in the mobile apps age. But I don't think huge numbers of people are inherently against buying something else. They just don't see the point in investing time and effort in even thinking about switching to something else. Really, they are the sane ones. It's only a relatively small percentage of us who obsessively compare smartphones and switch when we think something else is a little bit better.

Works exactly the same in the car industry. People buy what they like, not what others consider is "best".

It's not what's on the phone being the logo, it's what's behind the logo that keep people coming back. Whether you agree or not, apple brand image is very strong and that is where the repeat buyers come from. The total package is head and shoulders above other manufacturers, although when you get down to comparing does my phone have a micro-sd slot, it doesn't seem that way.

Buying an iPhone 7 is likely to be a huge risk, undoubtedly Apple is saving their best upgrades for next year. Persistent rumors about the 2017 10th Anniversary iPhone suggest that it will be the model worth waiting for.

iPhone 7 sounds like a placeholder of sorts. Only a few minor tweaks to give Apple something to hype, it's going to be a lackluster yet adequate smartphone that'll be forgettable once the 10th Anniversary iPhone is released.

I think android got really good on a 'decent' spec phone from Jelly bean. It has got better and better since. To the point of the S7 on Marshmallow and Samsung's additional features and yup... build being the best yet. So good this iOS offender loses the reason to re offend. Why?

I'm a repeat iOS offender going back to iPhone and always having an iPad. When i go back its amazing for a short time... then i get bored looking at the same old rows of apps. Somehow the iPad pleases me enough to keep along with an android tablet always.

Nice to have a change but i guess for mobile i'm an android user.

iPhone is iPhone, you get what you get and you know what your getting. Incremental improvements without spoiling the recipe or changing too much.

If you want iPhone go for iPhone. If you want android go for android but i wouldn't buy an iDroid. Different not better.

You are the first person I have heard say the S7 lags. I have the S7 edge and I had the HTC 10. I would say they are both very polished phones. But I don't have lag of any kind on my S7 edge. I have never read a reviewer say it lag either.

The only time my S7e (exynos) lagged was a) coming out of briefing / upday (but most of us here don't even bother with it) and b) on a couple of themes I tried, ones particularly which changed the lock screen with an animated image really caused lag on the lock screen.

But other than those isolated cases I can honestly say mine is smooth and lag free (Though i have the exynos). I don't think the HTC 10 or S7e are very different, they are essentially very speedy. My only gripes with my S7e are the false touches and difficulty I have typing on it at times. But other that that its a great device.

I don't use briefing but I do use Flipboard and G+ and other news apps and do not get an lag at all.

tbh I don't know why they don't just remove briefing or upday completely and just pre-install Flipboard. That way if you don't want it - you can remove it completely and if you do, you have the better Flipboard than the very limited briefing or upday panels.

As you say the main application itself doesn't lag, neither does Google Newsstand, both of which are far better news aggregators regardless, so Samsung should just ditch briefing once and for all.

I made the switch again on Friday....after 7 years of iOS and without a jailbreak I got bored. Plain and simple. Last month I traded my 128GB 6S Plus for a 128GB Nexus 6P and after two days it was the worst experience ever. Complete lagfest while playing games and just going from menu to menu. Couldn't handle it. So I went to a 6S...A buddy of mine got the edge and after playing with it for a while, I loved it. I got mine on Friday and am loving everything about it. I did have lag but after debloating with Package Disabler Pro, installing Good Lock, Block This, and Nova, it is like a brand new phone. The speed is amazing and the battery lasts all day.

I hated that every iOS update destroyed the battery bit by bit. I went from 22-24 hour charge days on the 6S Plus on 9.1 to 14-15 hours on 9.3.2. No change in usage, just background BS it seemed like. I am still able to use my Apple Music on my S7E, I can tweak and customize what I want and I am happy again. Im still waiting on iOS 10 to see what Apple brings this year, but for now I am happy being a hypocrite and have changed my Samesucks / Samesh*t hating ways.
