So I decided to do some updates on a mac mini running Catalina. This included Safari 14.1.

After installing the update, and trying to load some sites after upgrade it will load perfectly, comes up saying this website was reloaded because a problem occurred, redirects to unable to load page or a problem repeatedly occurred with (website name).

I thought initially it was isolated to the mac mini, but I remembered that my MacBook Pro had the same updates pending.

I installed the updates on my MacBook Pro, and tested again... same issue.

The sites load fine in Chrome, which tells me Safari has a major bug.

I haven't seen any problems in Safari 14.1 on several computers I've upgraded. Do you have any extensions installed?

Had exactly the same problem here, so I disabled all my Safari extensions and it seems to be working OK.

Now I've turned them all back on and its still working.

No idea what the hell is going on.

Yep, same here. Googling it looks like people have had this on and off with Safari for a long time. Who know why it's affecting us now. grrr.
Same issue on Macrumors home page

Same issue after updating to 14.1 (running Mojave). Same problem with extensions turned off (I only have a couple any way). Same problem after removing website data from a website that exhibits the problem.

I've just rebooted again - 2nd time after installing the update - and it seems to be OK now...
(famous last words)

[edit] - no it isn't - it's still knackered

Called Applecare. TLDR: Next thing to try is to reinstall Catalina ?

Things they had me try, with no success:
  • Prevented start up programs
  • Disabled Safari extensions (were already disabled)
  • Cleared cache / website data
  • Restarted Mac in safe mode
  • Created a test user, logged in as new user, new user had the same issue
The said it was not a current reported / known issue, so next step was to either revert to a backup or reinstall Catalina.

I'm going to hang on for now in case the issue gets any traction and use Chrome instead. (Also I am working and no time for that!)

When Safari 14.0 had a bunch of issues I wrote this article on how to downgrade Safari. I still need to test to see if downgrading from 14.1 to 14.0.3 works (It should). I've included Apple Safari 14.0.3 pkg download links at the bottom of my article.

Safari14.1 seems to be working well(Mojave, iMac Late 2012, 27"). I am wondering if it is again has to do with the order in which it is installed. From my experience Safari should always be installed last, which I did this time as well.

Ran lastest Mojave security and Safari update. I should know better than to blindly install updates these days! Safari immediately unusable for many website, such as WeTransfer, reload loop ending in "a problem repeatedly occurred error". After the woes of the upload button being broken for weeks on end late last year this is annoying to say the least. A quick google found this page:

Downloading and re-installing via this 14.1 Mojave package installer link has solved the issue with WeTransfer for me.

Many thanks to Robservatory and MacUpdate.

A new Safari Software Update release has shown up today for my Cat MBP after the original 14.1 was pulled on 4/30. I never installed the original 14.1 release, so I can confirm that it disappeared from Software Update from 4/30 - 5/4. Can someone please confirm that it is now working as intended? AND can someone please post the original 14.1 BUILD number? and if someone has today's 14.1 BUILD number, please post? Why they didn't change the version number is... well... Apple nowadays. Here is what I am seeing in my Software Update now, 5/4 (I did not take a screen shot of the original release):

Thank you. Here is the BUILD number from someone on Apple Communities that installed today's 14.1 version, but for Mojave:
Version 14.1 (14611.1.21.161.7)
Does anyone have the new BUILD number for Catalina? Did it change from xxx.5 to xxx.7?

urbanracer43, did a new Safari update show up for you in Software Update today?

there
well, the late 2010 MacBook air wants to install this version for Mojave, is this worth the dice roll?
things seem very fluid this evening and Mojave, Safari 14.0..3 seems to be running better than last month
is this upgrade might be a nasty gamble today.
