macOS Monterey 12.7.6 Release Candidate 3 (21H1313) has been released to registered developers.
can somebody check RC3 if the bug is fixed?

It seems 12.7.6 RC4 solves the issue. So far so good

Still crashes with EXC_CRASH exception

Can confirm, also having this error and only after I've updated to Safari 17.5. I'm on Monterey 12.7.5.

I think I need to clarify: I'm getting this error message each time I close Safari's window, but if I simply press "Continue" it won't crash, just continues to work. Obviously, if I press "Crash" Safari crashes. Still annoying af.

I am curious if those of us having the crash issue have something in common outside of the Safari version (17.5+)? For example do you have a VPN client or network tool like LuLu installed? I also have WIPR and the IINA safari extensions.

Safari is crashing on me even when not using the VPN, so I initially eliminated it as a cause. I did notice there is a persistent daemon that is running even when not connected, so I removed my client (well, zipped it up) and force quit the daemon, and haven't had a crash in Safari so far.

I do also have LuLu running in the background to keep an eye on what apps are trying to connect to the net.

Anyone got the new Monterey 12.7.6 update installed to confirm if the crash still happens? Reluctant to update myself.

EDIT: found a reddit comment posted from just hours ago, someone confirms crash is still happening...

From @kenm22's post #4 on May 16, it was obvious that this is not a Safari/macOS problem, but a user configuration issue.

At least consider trying to troubleshot the problem:
- clear Safari's cache from the Develop menu (⌥⌘E)
(Develop menu - Safari - Settings – Advanced - Show features for web developers https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/ibrw1075/)
or by deleting ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Caches

- run OnyX - maintenance – Cleaning Internet https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html

- run Safari without extensions by uninstalling them, not just turning them off https://support.apple.com/102343

- Turn off Hide IP address in Safari https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/sfri35610/ and Private Relay https://support.apple.com/102022

- “clean Safari” AppleScript https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/safari-issues.2354917/post-31383169

people tried on clean install of OS and still crashes, what the maintenance you talk about?

Read the mentioned post, it doesn't happen on a new user account.
If you "clean install" and use Migration Assistant or Time Machine to restore your data, that's not a clean install.

then why dont you make the "cleanest install" and prove your theory than just bla bla bla

Since they were released, I’ve been running Monterey 12.7.5 and Safari 17.5 without any crashes.
I have updated to Monterey 12.7.6 and Safari 17.6 without any issues or crashes.

In post #40 @Woof Woof has identified what appears to have been the cause in his case.

Good luck waiting for Apple to fix your problem.

Both #4 and #40 that you referred to are inconclusive.

#4 had a clean install to not have crash but he didn’t say if try to restore or rebuild to the previous state of his system to reproduce crashes or not.

Then #40 has a very specific set of suspect apps that we can imagine not all of us have the same stuff installed.

I thank you for the input in trying to help but yes, it takes very long winding trouble shooting to pinpoint the cause that hasn’t happened yet in this thread.
