Safari and Twitter... anyone else having issues?

Safari will regularly time out trying to load Twitter. It will just hang, and hang, and hang.... and finally I'll just hit "refresh" and instantly the time-out notice will appear. Refresh again and the page instantly loads. Not from cache... fresh, new content.

I've tried loading Twitter from Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and while Safari has this issue it doesn't appear that the other browsers do. And it happens all the time... with any link related to the Twitter server. I cannot fathom why Safari alone would be subject to this issue but it's the only factor I haven't managed to write off.

I've tried clearing Safari's caches and the issue continues to happen...

I check twitter.com every morning and just now checked and have never had this issue with Safari. Do you maybe have an extension of adblocker installed that could be causing a problem?

I don't run any extensions with Safari. It's a very weird issue and I wish I understood what was going on. I'd assume it was my ISP (Time Warner) except I don't have any connectivity issues to twitter via Chrome or Firefox or via the iOS app.

I'm having this same exact problem. It started happening a few weeks ago, maybe even more. I thought it was something related to my internet connection, since I haven't been able to find other people that experienced this… until now. I haven't been able to fix it. I've tried several things, such as changing my preferred DNS servers, but to no avail. Let's see if other users can help us fix this.

I'm currently using a mid-2010 iMac with the latest stable version of El Capitan (10.11.1), although I've used the previous public betas.

I have this problem too, but only after waking the computer from sleep.
A restart of Safari is sufficient, but should not be necessary. It happens since El Capitan/Safari 9.

This has been happening to me as well with Google, Twitter, and YouTube. I've tried different adblockers, content blockers, no extensions at all, but it still happens.

Since 10.11.2 was released, are people still experiencing this problem? I've actually gone back to Yosemite, so can't test it myself.

Posted about this issue at the end of October. Tried a number of things to resolve it including deleting history, cache and resetting Safari, but it persisted. I've updated to the new version of El Capitan today and have had no issues so far, hopefully they've fixed it.

Hey again. Just saw that there was an update to Safari (9.0.2). Did you test the problem after updating?

Happens here with Twitter, Youtube and even Google. Haven't noticed it on any other sites. I have to keep refreshing until it eventually works. I have tried with and without uBlock.

Yep. I've been on version 9.0.2 for a number of days now and the issue persists. The problem must not be that prevalent because the vast majority of El-Capitan users don't appear to have the problem. When I switch back to Mavericks everything works fine.

It definitely still happens with OS X 10.11.2 and Safari 9.0.2. In my case, the only problem is Twitter. Google and YouTube work perfectly fine.

I've been experiencing this issue since upgrading to El Cap, and the issue still persists for me since upgrading to Safari 9.0.2. For a while I thought that this was a persistent DNS server issue with my ISP, but after flushing my DNS cache and reconfiguring my DNS servers to something else I was still experiencing the problem. I run no extensions in Safari, and like others, I don't experience this problem while using Firefox or Chrome on the same machine. This issue also seems to extend to URL shorteners, too, i.e. bit.ly and t.co links.

Thought I'd post an update to this.

I removed all website data, cleared my cache, deleted the .plist file for Safari &etc and this seems to have resolved the issue with loading Twitter.... for about a couple of hours. It's December 16th as I write this and I still regularly have Twitter and any Twitter-controlled assets (like their URL redirector) time out on me while using Safari on OSX.

No extensions installed. The only plugins installed are for MassTransit file uploads, and I've verified the issue occurs with or without that plugin present.

Yes - I have been having the same problem. My most recent attempt to fix it has been to delete the https_twitter.com_0 database inside the __IndexedDB located in /Library/Safari/Databases.

I just deleted the entire __IndexedDB to be honest. So far so good. Will report back here in a few days to tell if it has completely fixed it though.

Happens the most for Twitter, but others as well. I was thinking a router issue or FiOS network issue. Tried another router and same issues appear. So I downloaded Chrome and I have no issues. Chrome is just not as good.

I tried that, but it didn't help in my case. Thanks for sharing your solution, I hope it works for you at least.
