Amazing that this issue only has a small number of us. Something is going on in Safari and Apple needs to better control the quality of their new releases.

PS: Chrome is working flawlessly.

Hey there! Just wondering, how has your potential fixed worked so far? Has the issue come back or seems to be fixed for good? Thanks!

It seems better - but it is still happening. Not as often though. Could be just luck too.
I have also tried (when it gets stuck) to remove the 's' from the https:// - and that works again only sometimes.
It's a real pain :(

Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

Its totally random for me. I have tried the non-https and it still freezes.

Intermittently, yes. Such as right now, it has been like this for a minute:

I get the same thing with Twitter. It hangs, then an error page, but if I refresh the page it loads. With the latest update didn't help. It sometimes loads right away and other times it hangs. Website that embed tweets also seem to hang as well.

Apple better get their crap together, this is complete BS.

Same problem here. I've got twitter as a pinned tab and going to it sometimes it just hangs without loading anything.

Also, clicking links in twitter posts (the t.co variety) sometimes does not do anything. Like someone said above, manually removing the s in https:// will then load the link.

I thought it was a twitter problem but now I see it's Safari. Very annoying as I don't want to use any other browser.

PS. Just to add, I've experienced this problem since the earliest El Cap betas up until now -- even after performing a clean install at the official release.

I think I have discovered a solution. I just did the following steps and it seems to be fixed, but maybe the problem will reappear.

Copy and paste this instruction in Terminal and press Enter:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
Quit Safari and open it again. Done. As I said, I don't guarantee that this actually works, but for now it seems to have fixed the problem.

So, the problems seems to be the Safari DNS prefetching engine.

EDIT: No, this doesn't fix the problem permanently. I'm sorry.

Tried this last night. It seemed to work? But then in the morning the problem happened again. Maybe the option got re-enabled or something while my MBA was sleeping.

Yep, false alarm. The problem is still there. Oh, Apple…

Anyone here have a VPN? I decided to leave my VPN on for a chunk of the day and didn't seem to have our little problem. I know it's not exactly a great solution as not everyone will have a VPN, but it could be a start to finding out what the cause of the problem is.

Ive had these issues for a while now and its getting worse. Anything google/twitter/youtube won't load and need constant refreshing but when I switch to chrome it works fine. Also having issues now where extended sleep such as 10 plus hours causes safari to need to be force quit. Really annoying and I hate the idea of using chrome. I feel like anything google related is just trying to not work on apple.

If any of you guys have Tweetbot, try this. It appears to have worked for me.

defaults write com.tapbots.TweetbotMac OpenURLsDirectly YES
