Safari closes while MBP's asleep

I just noticed if I leave Safari opened when I close my M1 MBP, the app is closed when I come back hours later. There are no windows open nor is there a dot under the app in the dock.

I went from a 2011 Mac mini running High Sierra (I think!) to this running Sonoma. It's been going on for a while but now I'm posting about it.

This doesn't feel like expected behavior since no other apps are doing this.
