… Chrome Apps …

Side note: Text.app 38.0.2125.24 does not bring its window to front when I click its icon in the Dock (and if a Chrome window is open, Chrome is brought to front). I have a hunch that this misbehaviour is a side effect of my preference for single application mode, but I don't intend to investigate further.

… self-contained websites. What Fluid does on OS X …

I experimented with MacRumors Forums, screenshot attached. In itself it's neat but – with emphasis on things being self-contained – there's an undesirable side effect. Each new tab in my MacRumors Forums.app generates three or four new windows in Safari.app, the following domains:
  • googleads.g.doubleclick.net
  • my.leadpages.net
  • secure-us.imrworldwide.com
  • tpc.googlesyndication.com
So … yes, it has a site icon; and yes, it can be pinned (to my Dock) but some site-related content is not contained in the app – it 'spills' into the default web browser.
