Safari or Chrome?

What's fastest for you, Safari or Chrome?

I think Safari is faster for me, and it also saves a good amount of energy/battery life. Chrome continues to use too much battery life so it's not very efficient. Another positive thing about Safari is the beautiful interface. Chrome should update their ugly one.

Safari. Because at this point in time, stable Chrome is 32-bit only, while Safari is 64.

Safari, though not because it's necessarily faster but rather for keychain and continuity with other iDevices. I like Chrome on the desktop just fine but don't like the mobile version--iOS or Android.

Hmm, I've been using Safari only but sometimes I'll use Chrome Canary when I need to use flash/watch youtube videos. Is uBlock better? I've been using Adguard.

Yes. It uses different APIs to do its ad-blocking and is subsequently a lot more efficient (much faster, less taxing on CPU/memory)

That said, I'm using Safari because I'm actively trying to like Safari 8. But it has those occasional performance issues that really make me cringe.

I say Firefox

Deal breaker for me with Safari is the poor extensions, mostly Adblock isn't nearly as good because the Safari API is locked down Apple style

Firefox is extremely fast but the problem for me is the CPU usage. If they got that fixed then I'd use it as my primary.

I was just about ready to switch to Firefox, but with the release this morning of PB4, Safari is noticeably snapper.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll start using uBlock when I use Chrome Canary. I love Safari 8 but I agree with the performance issues. I also wish they had uBlock for Safari now that you got me interested in using it over Adguard.

Something is wrong with your system, apps, programs or something else since many of use, including me, have experienced just the opposite. Its darn fast now with Yosemite PB4, and has been that way with even PB3 as well. I haven't messed with my system, nor added anything to it like external Hard drive, nor programs that are not up to date. Nor have I downloaded any apps other than AdBlock and Battery Check.

If a bunch of us on this forum have no issues with Safari, than why is it that you do ? Something to look at.

I use Chrome simply because it can remember what size I have zoomed in (or out) of each site.

With Safari if you close it and open it up again, each site is back to the normal font size. That drives me crazy and seems to be such a simple thing to implement.

I've tried a few add ons, but they don't have the simplicity of hitting control + or control - in Chrome and knowing the page will remain that way whenever you access it in.

I can tell you from testing that Canary has a better html5 player than Safari or Firefox.

Safari is much faster than it use to be.

I've happily switched to SafarIve since the Yosemite DPs, having been Chrome-only for at least 4 years.

Mainly because Chrome was a lot nicer to look at than Safari before Yosemite.

But better integration, snappierness, bettery life all a plus too!

Wish SafarIve had true fullscreen mode though.

Using Chrome 64bit is the best! I prefer Chrome for the sign-in feature that unifies all of Google's networks, the extensions available, faster load times, and frequent updates.

Ironically, I don’t use Chrome precisely because of that. In addition, Chrome has a bit of a feature creep as of late, starting with Chrome Notifications (i.e. that icon in the menu bar) as well as Chrome Apps, which I don’t use. I just don’t like that this app intrudes into my system like that. I know that I can disable them, but I don’t want Google to add these features without an easy way to disable them (chrome://flags is not easy to go through without a manual). With Safari I always know that not much will change without a major OS update.

My needs are very moderate. I want a fast browser without any bells or whistles that supports exactly three extensions: 1Password, AdBlock and Ghostery. Safari in Yosemite is incredibly fast and smooth and just has that OS X look and feel to it that Chrome never really had. Moreover, bookmarks and the reading list are very convenient, something which Chrome doesn’t do very well without extensions.

I still have Chrome, but for two reasons only: Flash and Netflix support without Silverlight.

Same for me, I really want to use Safari. But zooming in all the time makes me go nuts
