I wonder if "Hide IP address from trackers" is just private relay, but restricted to tracking websites. Clicking on "Learn more..." there take me to the System Settings Private Relay setting.

Slight distinction between the two. Given the distinction one wouldnt think that hiding from trackers should impact anything beyond ad services but for some reason it did for me. Here is the site where I found this. I would guess the way in which they are hiding from trackers is maybe just in some trickery on the client side in how it handles loading the page vs using the relay.

Thanks for the info.

The address being hidden from trackers is the outside address of my router. If the packets travel from my router to some tracking website directly, then that site will see the source IP address. That's why I tend to believe they use their relay, so that they can rewrite the source IP address to that of the relay. I definitely could be wrong.

Is there any way to change the useragent string on Safari to match Google Chrome?
Yes, you have to enable the Develop menu which you'll find under Settings > advanced and then it gives you the options second line down in the menu.

My advice

- disable IPv6, only possible from Terminal with
Code:
networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi

networksetup -setv6off Ethernet

Use IPv6 on Mac https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-ipv6-on-mac-mchlp2499/mac

- disable iCloud Private Relay https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212614 and Hide IP address https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/privacy-sfri35610/mac

- change DNS settings https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-dns-settings-network-preferences-mac-mh14127/mac

Cloudflare’s are usually the fastest
1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1

Google DNS
8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

OpenDNS
208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220

Feels like Safari performance is based on a roll of the dice. For a few weeks it was running beautifully but yesterday and today I'm getting slowdowns and softlocks. Does anyone else experience this? I did not install the hotfix from yesterday on my laptop so doubt it has anything to do with it.
