I know that Apple often (but not always) has an October event. I've been waiting to buy an iPad Pro, in case they release an updated model. But with 10 days to go I'm guessing an October event isn't going to happen - or could it?

I guess I have to now consider if I want to wait til Black Friday/Cyber Monday to buy. I'm planning on ordering through Verizon Wireless so waiting might not make much of a difference. Thoughts?

We really can’t tell.

There is always the possibility that Apple simply releases them silently in the Apple store, the same way they updated the AirPods earlier this year.

The thing I see is there really isn’t any one unifying theme for what seems to be a hodge podge of products. We have the 16” MBP, iPad Pro, Apple TV, maybe Apple tags and AirPods pro?

I will say to wait until the end of the month if you are not in a hurry. That seems to be the cutoff date for Apple to unveil new products and still have them ready to go for the all-important holiday shopping season.

The rumors are suggesting a larger iPad Pro update for 2020 with a majorly updated camera, so perhaps no updates this year. If I've waited this long a few more days won't hurt.

Last year Apple held an event on October 30. It issued invitations on October 18.

But if I recalled correctly, Apple has sent invitations for an event on the next day at least in one occasion.

So it is entirely possible that Apple still holds an event before the end of the month.

And of course nothing prevents Apple from holding an event on November or December.

What if they held an event the day there Apple TV Plus service launches...they still have to release the new mac pros too...i hear nothing on a release date for that outside of the fall...(Not that i am the targeted market for that product)

So you would think they would have to announce something, not necessary a keynote, but more of a press release or something.

Honestly i am totally fine with no new ipads this year. The time frame for them too is still too soon. Ive been following news on ipads for a decade and i can only recall once when they put out a new version of an ipad a year after the last one...(i think it was for the 3 or something i cant recall which one at the moment)

My guess...they could always do something in novemeber, theres no reason why they cant, esp now that they dont have to rent out a place and can hold it on campus 2...they could do it anytime they want...

but if we go past novemeber 5th with no invites, no keynote, nothing id say its a safe bet at this point we're not getting anything new or any new anouncments until march at the earliest.

My guess is this...

Nothing new for the rest of this year, press release saying when the mac pros will be avalable.

March we get a big event, new ipad pros, 16 inch macbook pros, tiles, airpod pros, and a one more thing talking about the Apple Glasses

Then WWDC, maybe some more on the apple glasses (maybe a launch, but that would only be three months after an anouncment, so they could launch more reasonably in septemeber alongside the new iphones)

Does everyone in this community ignore the buyer's guide? Apple has NEVER updated the iPad Pros on a yearly basis. Updates have always occured 14 - 16 months after the last cycle. Expecting a new iPad Pro at 12 months after the biggest redesign they've ever seen was a fool's run. There are NO new iPad Pros until March. End of story.

Much appreciated - I didn't know the Buyers Guide existed. That clinches it for me, I'm not waiting til March.

I wish I'd found the Buyers Guide earlier, I've been waiting for a couple of months! And put my digital art on hold after I decided that my Surface Pro's pen sensitivity sucked.

Any place but here or there....
I just picked up another Air 3, if they announce Pros in the next two weeks, I'll consider swapping out. I love the 2nd gen pencil.

If not, I'll still consider upgrading whenever the new pros are released. For me, no one makes better art apps than those for the iPads.

@muzzy996 I've had an SP4 since early 2016 and and SP5 since this past spring (I've had the SP4 replaced twice for hardware issues, this time they gave me a refurb SP5 back).

Last year I tried a gen 1 iPad Pro & Pencil for 45 minutes and knew the Surface Pen sucked in comparison. I was able to live with the SP until a few weeks ago when I got super frustrated with digital inking. One day I decided to analog sketch for the first time in ages and realized that the issue was not me. The Surface Pen sucks in comparison to the Apple Pencil (caveat: perhaps the older Surface Pens when the devices used the Wacom digitizer are ok, but they still didn't support tilt).

@AutomaticApple See my response. I don't have any numbers or 'evidence' beyond knowing whether I'm drawing well or not.

My main drawing app is Clip Studio Paint which has the ability to customize global pressure curves as well as per-brush pressure curves; I adjusted both heavily, to no avail. My analog lines are more life-like than anything I could achieve with the Surface Pros. 45 minutes with a Gen 1 iPad Pro & Pencil made me realize what the difference was. The kind of sketching & inking I see people do with iPad Pros is not possible with Surface Pros.

I actually went through something similar with the pre-Pro iPads, finally giving up after a few years of struggling when an old Wacom Bamboo tablet was huge improvement over the iPad and several styluses (the 'best' being a Pogo Connect).

After that I got a Toshiba Encore 2 Write on an artist's recommendation and it was a GREAT drawing & note-taking experience. But it was an underpowered wintab, which convinced me to upgrade to the Surface Pro 4 - which I use for EVERYTHING - except the N-trig digitizer is not as good as the Wacom.

Does this qualify as evidence?

Hah! :D

I'm still going to wait another week either way.
Don't forget that iPads almost always go on sale around Black Friday (third party retailers). It's not that far away. I picked up my Pro in 2018 a couple days after for $50 off.

at this point id say its a safe bet that we arent getting any new ipads for the remainder of the year. Next March at the earliest, and maybe even later at WWDC or The Iphone Event next september...

I was kinda hoping for an event to one more thing apple glasses so they would come out in the spring, but it looks like im going to have to wait on that one a bit longer too...fine...gives me time to save up money to afford the darn things!

Thanks for the time spent responding, you misunderstood though. My comment was in regards to other debates about the pencil in other threads where it is implied that specs rule and subjective experience with the two devices is irrelevant (was sarcastic and not directed at you to provide proof). You need not convince me that some prefer the Apple Pencil.

Of course, but I think they were alluding to @booksbooks requests of “evidence” that Pencil is better in the this thread. :)

As I said there, most artists agree that Pencil is a lot better, that is my experience as well (and yours), but booksbooks was asking for some proof beyond that, even after they were shown the Surface wobble videos and latency info.

Yes it does, it's called "economical sense". December is too late for the holiday season, early November is possible but still really, really late. They either release stuff by then or they wait until after the holiday season. Nobody releases anything of importance mid December.

My guess is that it is too late already. No event on October should mean no event this year. Silent updates are always possible but they would be smaller scale and even then we should see something soon or we will wait until 2020.

They may well release some devices on Monday and Tuesday next week without the need for an event.

I can't help but think it will get a quiet spec bump when the Mac Pro finally releases. Will hold out till the 5th and buy from Apple to get that 2 week period. Probably will release the day after it ends haa..
