Hasn't the Jailbreak team said that before "This firmware update looks like it will stop jailbreaking all together then a week or so later they are "heroes" because they were able to break the firmware...

If it is no longer able to be ever jailbroken oh well I will deal with that. But I highly doubt thats the case.

Apple is trying to make it difficult to jailbreak and their updates of iTunes could have something that may prevent it so you should ask the dev team or somebody who doesnt want to take the time to read anything if it works but the jailbreak for 3.1 has not been released yet so we dont know yet.

There isnt any need to rush and upgrade your iTunes anyways. It isnt going to make your phone do anything different except for maybe prevent it from jailbreaking....lol

Its up to you if you want to find out these things. Some only want to find out after they have screwed up their phone and need help fixing it.

There doesn't appear to be any risk in updating iTunes to version 9. I have a 3GS on 3.0 and its working fine with iTunes 9. I won't update to 3.1 firmware until Dev Team or GeoHot says we can. I agree with the previous statements that the features you get from a JB phone FAR outweigh the new stuff in 3.1. My phone is running great right now, and PDANet is the bomb for tethering. I would like to have MMS, so we'll have to see what the deal is on the 25th and if I can use MMS without having to muck around with a firmware update.

From MuscleNerd's tweet (member of DevTeam) ---> iTunes 9 plays well with already-jailbroken and unlocked devices

Doesn't specify anything about future JB/UL compatibility however.

I just installed iTunes 9 without updating to 3.1 (btw, i hear that redsn0w will JB 3.1 tomorrow sometime). NO PROBLEMS at all with syncing or anything...installed right on top of my 8.2. Kept all my settings, contacts, podcasts and apps.

Ohh, im using Vista home 32bit...i dunno if that matters...

I'm relatively (re)new to jailbreaking, I have a mac mini that I'm using as a media server, that's got iTunes 8.2 and 10.5.8 installed (and I have no need to update this), am I right in thinking that as long as that machine stays like that, if iTunes 9 breaks the ability to re-jailbreak, I jailbreak on my mini and then sync with my regular machine?

i dunno for sure, but i dont believe iTunes will break your jailbreak. I have it installed now with my JB 3G and no issues....i synced up no problems.

If it were to break your jailbreak, i think it would of done it already or you would see people saying that its doing so.

I know it wont break my existing jailbreak, I'm thinking foward to when I need to re-jailbreak (update time). I know before certain versions of iTunes have done tricky things that have got in the way of the jailbreak process.

The issue i believe everybody wants to know is if you can jailbreak using iTunes 9. That we wont know til the jailbreak is released and somebody tries it or the dev team says it is ok which ill assume they will tell us when it is released but im not going to update iTunes til we find out.

We already know you wont lose your jailbreak from iTunes. You only lose it when you update to a new firmware with iTunes.

Excellent. If he says it's cool, it's cool.

iTunes 9 problems with library...

I upgraded to iTunes 9... everything seemed fine until I started noticing that it couldn't find many songs (like about 1/3 or 1/4 of my over 2,000 songs). Most of them I can manually go and find them (right where they should be but I still had to do it for every song in a particular album). I gave up--what is going on here?

iTunes 9 seems to play nice with cracked aps for me. They sync fine and I added 2 new cracked aps to iTunes and that was fine too

yeah the cracked apps work fine for me. and jailbroken apps show up in the app arragement screen for me too.
but im still on the 3.1 beta until the final version is jailbroken.

Caution....
Some programs fail to work after upgrading to 9.0
I have iPhoneBrowser and IFunbox installed on my PC (Win7). They now fail to load the iPhone. Seems like the file "iTunesMobileDevice.dll" is being updated. This has been reported on other forums... This should only effect USB connections..

i know i am new here still, but coming from ppc's and basically windows mobile devices. the one thing you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DO IS UPDATE WITHOUT CONSULTING OTHER FELLOW NERDS 1ST!!! i have seen it time and time again many rushing to new updates only to have to hard reset or in this case re-jailbreak a phone and/or device. for all that are worried you should listen to what someone said earlier, wait til Dev squad looks into it then see what they have to say. may take a day may take 2wks. be patient cause your phone is not going anywhere (knock on wood!).
