Just got an email to sign up for Samsung device insights on the Note 9. Haven’t been selected but the email contains a survey to go into a pool for selection.

%50 off the device.

Have to have the insights app on the device using KNOX to send Samsung data.

Have to use as your primary device for 12 months and fill out occasional surveys.

Of any android phone the Note always interests me however I am always worried of switching away from Apple and my Apple Watch and AirPods.

For %50 off the device would you use a Note 9 for 12 months??

Anybody that’s ever done this have info to share?

If it's not spam and legit, I'd do it for sure. Man, wonder how you got offered that, and me not. I've had so many Samsungs. :(

Honestly, I have no idea, nor do I know for sure if it’s legit. If it is I imagine it’s because I have not owned any Samsung phones.

This is not a scam. I’ve done this program before, but the phone that I received was free as long as you used it for 12 months and let them see all of your data during that period. I was sent an S8 at the time. I only used it for a month, though. I had to go back to the iPhone.

They still send me referral emails for family and friends, but no one that I know wants to share their data with Samsung.

Theoretically they don't look at the actual data.. its supposed to be about usage patterns and app usage, however I realize that is probably bogus..

What happened to your S8 after you stopped using it? Did you have to send it back?

Yes, I actually changed carriers and then I requested to send it back. It takes them weeks to months to respond to any emails you send to them, though.

Yea, that is also a concern of mine since it is not actually free anymore. If I decide to do that am I out the $500 or do they refund?

I don’t know what the new terms would be now that they’re making you pay 50% as well. I would assume after 30 days you’d probably be stuck with it, but it’s best to ask them before you go ahead with the purchase.

agreed. I assume I'd be stuck with it, however as part of the terms you have to use the phone as your primary device for 12 months.. which I think means used at least once a month. However, nothing said on what they would want to do if you breached that part of the agreement.

No big deal, I might not even be selected to participate. Thanks!

Well in the past, it was a no-brainer considering it was free for participants. Even now this is a fantastic deal as the Note 9 will be worth at least $500 in twelve months. Can sell at that time and easily recoup the cost.

One of my friends who was a past participant referred me, so I also got the e-mail. He's planning to sell his free Note 8 in a couple months, and that would pay for the 50% Note 9.

Exactly. Would definitely be a no brainer at free. I was curious if it would hold to %50 after a year, Note 8’s are going for $450 now, but that didn’t start at $1k. Lots of folks stating they are getting theirs at half off too, assume it’s with a BOGO and a new line..

Since this is a more expensive device, it'll definitely be worth at least $500 assuming you keep your device in good condition. If you keep it mint, it'd be worth more.

Well deals with carriers are completely different. This is special since you get a straight discount.

Well they sent a follow-up e-mail:

We are finalizing Device Insights Program participants for Galaxy Note 9. We would like to clarify a couple things:

1. Trade-In Option is not available with 50% discount code

2. The current promotion (AKG headset or Fortnite) will be ending on August 23 (Thursday). The Device Insights promotion starts on August 24 (Friday), the selected participant will not be eligible for AKG headset or Fortnite promotion. However, you will be eligible for any promotion that may be running at the time you place an order.

If you agree with above conditions, please complete this short survey by August 22 (Wednesday 11:59 PM ET).

Yep, just got that email as well. Do they usually have any promotions after the preorder promotion?

Humm not sure if Samsung normally would open up another promotion immediately.

Haven't heard back yet, however the promos have changed. It's now a free duo charger and cover, and for the extra $100 you get the iconX.

Yep. Got it about a week ago. Already placed my order, currently showing back ordered.
Welp guess I just might not get it this time around. Still nothing, and it's nearing the program end date.

Seems to be based on your carrier. AT&T was first, unlocked and Verizon seem to be last. I imagine there may be another round as some folks decline to pay the $500. Good luck!

Thanks! Selected Unlocked as first option and AT&T as the second option. That's about what I figured from the Slickdeals thread. I'll hold out hope.

Finally I received my invite for the Unlocked Galaxy Note 9 a few minutes ago :)

Please note that your promo code is one time use. It is not re-usable. You must use before September 7, 2018 (Friday 11:59 PM ET). Please place your order preferably today itself.

Placed my order. Currently I use the OnePlus 6, and I upgrade every six months to the next OnePlus flagship. I'll sell the OP6 sometime before the OP6T is released in the Fall.
I received the email but declined due to paying 50% for the device.
I'm getting the device as it'll be worth at least $500 a year from now. It's a win-win personally as there's no loss.
