I'll definitely consider getting the A72 to replace my A71 when it dies. Hopefully it should last me more than the 3 years my S7 Edge did
You probably meant the A74 or something, few years from now. :D

I really like my A71. The only problem is the super late updates. I'll be curious for the S21 FE, and if it has the right price, I might trade in my A71. It's unfortunate, but I really dislike delayed security patches.

Can't say I'm too bothered about the security patches as I've never had a problem. I would however like Android 11 or the next One UI as the last update broke touch interaction vibration on my A71.

That being said I do hope this phone lasts long enough so my next one is something beyond the A72, as I do like it.

Has anyone read or seen any news on an A72 5G? I'd be very interested in replacing my A71 5G if and when they release an A72 5G.

From the rumors, the A72 5G will be basically the A52 5G with larger screen and telephoto lens.
Hope so. Eventhough telephoto is not hardly used on my phone. I have a real camera for that. Mine is mostly used on the wide end. So maybe the smaller a52 5g would be a better fit for me. I know my iPhone 11 is gone ASAP and I am moving my ipad to my son. His is not working right for the past year or so. Every two months I have to crash it to get rid of that stupid "other" file in iOS.

52. Seems the best features for the money. We have been going back and forth on phones for the past month or more. We have been wanting to move from apple as the OS is stale and lacking alot of features, as well as dumb things apple are doing with iOS now. So it's time for a change. We have been iOS users since the iphone 4 minus an awesome run with our two nokia 1020's. Once they were not supported anymore we moved back to iOS. Now it's time to goto android.

Yeah the 52 represents excellent value for money for what you get. As a current A71 owner who loves it's big screen I'm not sure if I'd want the slightly smaller screen or if I'd even notice a 0.2 inch reduction in size. I like the idea of the telephoto lens on the 72 and the bigger battery appeals also. If only it had a better chip, that would absolutely seal the deal for me.

I have watched multitudes of videos on the cheap samsungs. The specs are low but the performance is there. No, it's not going to be a "fast" as our iPhones. but, it's more open, and the difference in speed will not be noticed unless you have both phones side by side.

Yeah as long as the phone does it's job I'm really not concerned that much about the specs. My A71 does have the occasional stutter, but it's extremely minimal and has been ironed out to almost zero with the latest version of android.

I found the same thing with my galaxy tab A 8 I use for navigation and entertainment in our overlanding rig. Since 10 it's been butter.

Imo for Android, anything with performance core (A7x cores), UFS storage, and at least 4GB or RAM, should provide smooth experience. If not, then it’s more about the skin optimization and/or unoptimized/unneeded running apps.

I agree with @Smellmet . OneUI 3.1 (Android 11) on my A71 seems to help in terms of smoothness as well. Definitely reduces the laggyness. Just hoping that it will stick :D

I almost bought the 71 for myself, but I want S pen functionality, so the 10 lite is coming for me. I would get my wife the 51, but all indications it's a laggy experence with that one. I will pay the extra and get the 52 which supposedly is snappy.

The A51 uses the practically same exynos chip as the old A50, so it’s quite dated. Meanwhile the A52 runs Snapdragon 720G, which is practically similar chip as the SD730 in the A71. The 5G version uses an even better Snapdragon 750. The current A52 is definitely a great deal and it gets the best improvements over the A51.

For UK peeps, there's 15% off at Samsung.com right now (code is WEEKEND) plus decent trade-in values, e.g. £50 for a broken phone. Brings the A72 down to £314.

Tempted to do this for wife and sell her A71 for around £250 on eBay (it's pristine). That would mean a new A72 for a net £64! Decisions...

All we need now is an A series phone to feature wireless charging, and it's bye bye flagships forever for me (I'm there already tbh)

Imo the A72 is not really a big upgrade over the A71. Only get it if you need telephoto and IP67 rating. The rest of the spec are practically the same as the A71.

Out of interest - does the touch interaction vibration work on your A71? (ie the slight vibration on the screen when unlocking with the pattern, liking a Facebook post etc)

It hasn't worked on mine since the One UI 2.5 update.

Good to know, thanks. I’ll probably leave it then as she’s more than happy with the A71 anyway.

Working fine on my wife’s phone. EDIT: @Smellmet Correction. Just checked again and there is no vibration feedback when unlocking the phone using a pattern.

Hmm, I don’t remember about vibration when unlocking at all. Just the unlocking sound. Is that actually a feature? There is a setting for the phone to vibrate when picked up if there’s a notification, and that works fine on mine.

I don’t install Facebook app on mine (disabled it and the services as well), so can’t comment on that particular case ?

Yeah it used to make a slight vibrate with the unlock pattern among some other interactions. Don't understand it as the vibrate for the keyboard, back button etc work fine
