Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Replacement Explodes on Plane

I was hoping this was another hoax but the guy sounds legit and has the box to prove it. Time to pull the whole line if they confirm absolutely this was a replacement device.
Weeeellll this blows! Pun not intended. Every time I want to stray out of the Apple ecosystem, there's always something that brings be back in. Such as the difficulty in transitioning my music library to a non-Apple device, the crap apps in the Google Play store, bloatware that takes time to get rid of, and hardware defects like overheating batteries.

Wow...if truly, legitimately one of the new phones...just wow.
We should understand that occasional battery failures happen across all devices that use lithium ion batteries but for Samsung, they now need to make an exponential effort to insure the failure rate on their devices is practically nil, else the stigma associated with the brand could be irreparable. For the public, perception is reality and even if this is one of those rare one-offs, the perception to general consumers could be devastating.

Curious why he didn't go with another Android device, like Note 5, instead of jumping ecosystems and having to repurchase all his paid apps. Plus, he should've gotten the iPhone 6S Plus since it doesn't have a ton of hardware and software issues that the iPhone 7 Plus have.
I bought mine thru Best Buy.
And I'm under a Family Plan which I have members of my family pay their share. My reservations Note7 was ready to be picked up.. but Best Buy procedure is that they see a valid upgrade line in order to do a replacement.
And because my account wasn't current, I would had to wait for my replacement. Granted, I could had paid one of my family members part to successfully replace my Note7. But I just decided to return the Note7 all together.
When my account became current I went ahead gotten a 7 Plus.
Because his Samsung phone exploded while on a plane.
Probably doesn't care about the hassles associated with switching ecosystems after his phone exploded.
Have two iPhone 7 plus's no hardware or software problems whatsoever.
The nice thing about Apple is that there has never been a recall because of an exploding or iPhone going up in smoke. There has been known cases where iPhones have done this in the past but usually isolated cases. I remember some were because people used those knock off chargers. Of course Apple also recalled chargers one year.
The nice thing about Apple is, if this were to happen, you could interface directly with Apple in a store in a mall or wherever instead of having to go through the carrier. The nice thing about Apple is their CEO is an operations master so if this were to happen, Apple would squash it quick and not screw around like Samsung did.
Exactly. People on some of the Android forums keep bringing up the few iPhones that have gone up in smoke over the years and wonder why there was never a recall. They were never enough that did this to warrant a recall. That's the difference. With Samsung, there were something like 79 phones that did this. Some of them they weren't able to confirm because the owners refused to hand over the phone or simply couldn't be contacted so Samsung "wrote" them off.
Anyways, Samsung deserves the negative coverage on this since they rushed the Note 7 to beat the iPhone. They should have taken their time.
It's unclear if Samsung knew about potential battery defects. They knew in late August and issued the stop sale early September.
They don't appear to have fixed the issue, however.
Well, it seems like they took action. That said it seems like perhaps their fixes might be having issues too. That's certainly not good, but that's kind of neither her nor there as far as any other company goes as there can certainly be companies that pull something and make fixes that don't end up fully addressing the issue or having some other issues too.
