... thanks ;)

I just thought us Apple lot were happy go lucky people? A right friendly bunch kind'a thing, where we can share advice etc?

We can, but since most of us have no experience using a Note, why not go to the site where the ones with the most experience with that device reside? If i want to know more about an apple product, I come here. If I want to learn more about an android device, I go to androidforums. Now go to the Galaxy Note thread on androidforum and ask about the iPhone 5. What type of response do you think you will get?

I have a galaxy nexus but was playing with the note II at best buy yesterday. If my contract was up I would seriously consider it. Screen was gorgeous (IMO by far the best on any phone) and the thing was so responsive. Samsung has done a great job cleaning up touchwiz. Heard nothing but good things about the battery life as well. The size while cumbersome at first after a few days you'll be wondering why you used anything smaller. It was the same way with my galaxy nexus when switching from my droid incredible.

Nice one for the comments, Blackhand.

In every review I have watched, they concur that the battery life is amazing. And easily replaced, too.

I'm DEFINITELY going to the store to check it out next week, and I am not going to unwrap the iPhone 5 until I do!

Re the size, I think it's simply something that will appear as normal after just a few days use ... if that. So I agree with you on that one.

I don't really like the look of the black model as I think it looks plasticky (in the videos, at least) but the white model looks much more "hip".

Thanks again ...

... I think you are very, very wrong.

Just look at how many positive, and helpful comments I have received from people who either own the GN II, or have used/tried one!

And the VERY interesting thing is that absolutely none of those people have appeared to be tricky, ignorant or sarcastic in any way. Only the full on Apple people have come across that way!

As I have said ... I am an APPLE user, asking for comparisons between MY iPhone, and the Galaxy Note II.

Nothing more, nothing less ...

You do know the Note doesn't ship until the 27th? Will you be outside of your 30 day return window on iphone 5?

My iPhone 5 is being collected on Monday and being returned to Apple. A brand new, unopened unit will be with me on Tuesday.

I will just sell it online and what with the supply constraints I would get most, if not all of the money back that I paid for it.

I wouldn't even open it, I'd sell it as new ... which is what it will be.

And this is exactly why I am enquiring about the GN II because I am deciding what to do ... or trying to, anyway!

I have an iPhone 5 but I'm going to buy the Note 2 for my father when it comes out.

I think this is a market where Apple might be missing: older people whose eyes might need the bigger screen. He doesn't want it because of all the bells and whistles. He just wants it because it's easier on the eyes.

For me, the 4" screen and retina is more than I can ask for. Love the phone. But if I wanted a phablet, I'd rather get the iPad Mini and use that as my tablet. I'd rather carry two purpose built devices rather than one - in my opinion so please no flame - Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none device.

Saving up for a Mini :D

I was actually thinking about this earlier and I like the thought of having just one device ... the GN II appears to offer that possibility.

Oh yeah. And I think for everyone that wants it like that, it's your best option. I hope you enjoy the phone and update us as well!

But I mean, come on ... thins thing looks superb!

Not physically ... I think the black one looks ugly, but the white one looks much better.

Just check out some of the really innovative and funky features ... http://youtube.com/watch?v=dZxrpIC4ohg

I go jogging with my iPhone 4S.

I'll see what happens when I go jogging with a galaxy note 2 next week when I get mine.

I hope it doesn't drag my pants down. :D

I sell Note II's all day. I also sell the Galaxy S3, and I own a 4S. I could honestly tell you the quad core on the Note II isn't noticeable. The screen needs a required taste and the display isn't as good as the S3 or the 4S. I tell all my customers they are buying the Note II for is for it's 5.5" screen size. That's all.

It also comes with Jelly Bean. I guess that would be pretty cool if the S3 didn't already get the update.

Nexus 4. Now that is different. We haven't received that phone yet.. But I'm hearing good things.

I only sell Android's. The OS is excellent I won't lie. But it's not for me. I'm trying to purchase a i5 w/o a contract.. No luck yet.

Battery life and camera is very important to me, so the Nexus 4 is out of the question. Also the Nexus 4 only has 16GB max storage.

To me, it's a dud.

Note 2 has longer battery life, expandable memory, and better camera. Heard the camera is almost as good as the iPhone 4S, which is what I have now. I only upgraded from the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S mainly because it had a better camera.

Check out Borg's review ... the camera is better on the GN II.

You can manually change everything, even ISO which is superb.

Dig this ... you can even enable a setting where you just tell the phone "shoot" and it will take the shot, thus minimising camera shake for a more stabilised/sharper shot!

Then there's "best shot" which will RAPIDLY take a succession of shots, then tell you which on was the best/sharpest/most in focus etc!

Also check out the "best faces" feature ... this thing is AMAZING!

Just found out, it's actually released in the UK already ...

Hence why Detroit Borg's model shows the UK plug.

Just thought I'd keep you updated ...

Welcome to the "Alternatives to iOS" forums where all the comments aren't "WHY DON'T YOU JUST BUY AN IPAD?!".

The Note II is an excellent device. I returned my launch day iPhone 5 after seeing this phone. The screen is amazing, the features are plentiful, and the options are limitless. I've owned the device since it launched here in the US and have had no problems whatsoever with the size of the phone. Comfortable to hold and fits nicely in my pocket. People complain about it being plastic but I haven't thought once about scuffing or scratching since owning this phone like I did with the iPhone.

A couple other things I love are expandable storage, led notification light, a much better notification center, and google now.

Thanks buddy ... appreciate the time to share your opinions/views on the phablet!

I can't stop watching reviews of the thing and I think I am hooked!

The iPhone seems so BASIC and feature light, now ... and I haven't even seen the GN II in person!

Will definitely be checking it out next week ...

Thanks again for "welcoming" me ;)

By the way, I hate the "oh no I don't wanna scratch my beloved iPhone" feeling, thus I love the fact that with the GN II you can just replace the back if/when it gets scratched up ... leaving you to actually ENJOY the phone, as opposed to constantly worrying about it!

You can actually get a different Samsung back plate which has a flip over cover for the front ... have you seen it? It looks good ... I just saw it in one of the reviews.

Thanks again!

I spent some time comparing the S3 and Note 2 and the difference in processors was noticeable (US version). The screen on the Note 2 is actually superior due to a non penile sub pixel arrangement. It may have a lower dpi but in real world use text and images render just as sharp if not sharper. Screen has better contrast than the 4S, and lower brightness. You gain some and you lose some. It's a matter of preference, I prefer having a device that's capable of replacing a tablet which this has actually managed to do for me (iPad owner). I also used the iPhone for 2 and a half years.

Please listen to me I was in the same boat as you last week I sold my iPhone 5 to get a S3 (basically same phone except the pen and little bit bigger screen) I was so excited about all the features NFC, smart view, and the bigger screen. After 3 days I was so upset that I got rid of the S3 and went back to the 5. You just can't beat iOs' seamlessness and how smooth and user friendly it is. The S3 wasn't a bad phone at all but the iPhone suit my needs better. The only thing I miss from the S3 is the big screen oh also the S3 had a blue tint on web browsing which was annoying and browsing wasn't as smooth as the iPhone

Are we offending you, or threatening you in some way?

I am an IPHONE 5 owner/user who is asking for comparisons to another phone ... namely the Galaxy Note II.

Aaaaaannnnndddd rrrrrreeeeeeellllllaaaaaaaaxxxxxxxxx ...

;)

No. I couldn't really care. It just makes sense to me a thread talking about iPhone alternatives should be in the relevant section.

Anyway I don't need another pointless flamewar. Go on.

Yeah, one of the fun things before actually receiving the phone was watching all the positive reviews on the Note. I'm glad the back plate is replaceable. I've seen the flip covers, but ended up buying a different case for now.

I have no experience of the Note II but took a SGS3 in favour over a iPhone 5, I really like the experience with the S3, I think that the enhancements that Samsung have introduced into the Note II only bode well. I think you will enjoy the Note 2, many here have recounted good things about it. Would like to hear your impressions when you get it.
