Galaxy Tab S2 is being released today in the US. Got my pre-order in for an 8" mainly for the gorgeous SAMOLED display after seeing the Note 5 and 8" is just right for one-handed use. Best Buy has it for $299 after $100 trade-in on any junker tablet, iPad, etc.

The Mini 3 continually goes on sale for $299, it is going on now again at BB for the next 4 days. I know it is 16gb but one doesn't need to trade in anything for that price.

Saw that too. The Tab 2 has an sd card though. I think all tablets should have a sd card slot. They more so than phones are a media device. So far my iPad Air has been the best tablet experience for me. But the Tab 2 9.7 inch tablet does look sooooo nice!

I am pretty sure today is the release so I probably will check them out later today if they are on display.

I am not really in the market, just curious to tell the truth. A Samsung rep I spoke to about two weeks ago thought they be a hard sell considering the company keeps dropping too many devices and does not feel the price is a drawing card and he was not aware at the time of any trade in offers.
Good and honest insight from that Samsung rep. One reason why I never buy Samsung devices at full MSRP... they always drop dramatically in price a few months after release. I would consider trading my Tab Pro 8.4 toward an S2, but Best Buy is only offering $34. LOL (Sometimes their trade-in offers are excellent... this is not one of them)

Sell your Tab Pro 8.4 privately as you'll get more for it. Then, buy two $20 junker tablets and take advantage of Best Buy's $100 trade-in. You'll get two $50 off coupons for the Tab S2 and two $50 gift cards. While you can only use one coupon per purchase but you can stack the gift cards so $399 + $40 - $150 = $289 before tax.

I use tablets more like my hybrids/laptops so iPad Mini 3's paltry 1GB DRAM, inability to background multitask, non-support for split view and picture-in-picture in upcoming iOS 9, no mouse support, etc. are inadequate for me. Maybe if it was $150 I might consider using it as a bigger iPod.

Well done. I'm not interested enough in the S2 to go through that effort. My time is worth more than that. :) If BB gave me $150, I'd do it just on impulse. :)

Same here. If no iPad with mouse support is forthcoming then I'll probably be more serious about a fullsize Android option.

WOW!!

Display is amazing. Design is professional and clean. Bloat is very light. Got the 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 Lollipop update out of box. Soft touch back is very familiar and comfortable if you've ever used a Thinkpad or Nexus 7 2013. Although SoC model numbering would suggest otherwise CPU and GPU performance of Exynos 5433 is very close to 7420 with difference of about maybe -10% but still overkill when throwing everything at it and there's SD card slot along with OTG support. WIFI model has built-in GPS and works great with Nokia HERE offline maps. Don't care so much for thin and light but I guess it's beneficial to keep everything compact if you decide to get the book cover case with bluetooth keyboard and touchpad that can separate from the cover. Multiwindow multitasking performance is flawless with six apps running. With Microsoft now officially adopting Android the bundled Office app quality and seamless integration really show. Not only does RDP feel like running Windows directly on the Galaxy Tab S2 but instead of hiding Android underneath it seamlessly integrates Android apps on top (see screenshot) for the best of both worlds. Amazing how technology has evolved since my experience with 4:3 Thinkpad x61 tablet with fingerprint and pen in 2007. This is the real near-PC replacement.

Make sure you claim your additional two-year of 100GB OneDrive storage.

Note 5 is getting a little jealous

Seamless desktop integration of Windows and Android (3 windows on right plus 4 round icons in upper right are Android otherwise everything is Windows, swipe gestures work for bringing up Windows keyboard, charms bar, etc.)

From what I've read, the battery life for this tablet is pretty bad due to its thinness. Other than that, it seems like it surpasses the iPad and all other Android tablets.

Very happy so far with battery life considering the performance and multitasking capability. I can get more things done per hour of battery than doing it serially on other devices without multitasking and lower performance. Imagine how less productive you are on a laptop if you could only run one software at a time with slower CPU. I'd say this is clearly the best ARM tablet on the market.

Over 8hrs screen-on-time after first charge on 8" Galaxy Tab S2.

There's no pen option announced but spotted 'SPen com.samsung.android.sdk.spenv10' in app manager and along with previous observation that Samsung touch sensor can be used with fingernail along with YouTube video showing someone using a metal spoon as pen we may soon see a precision capacitive pen. This is the real near-PC replacement.

The version with cellular radio looks like it has the default dialer.

Mine is the WIFI version without default dialer but I use Hangouts Dialer that gives it the same 10-digit inbound/outbound calling and SMS/MMS capabilities free within North America.

LOL This is Samsung we're talking about. Wait 3-4 months and you can pick one up for 1/2 price as they clear out inventory for the S3 (or W) series. ;)

Man, shame TMO isn't offering the White LTE version of the S2 8" or I would of gotten one already.

The 9.7 has perked my interest, no tablets in the last year made me want them, tried the Nexus 9 but returned twice for faults that I'm sure everyone knows lol). Been waiting, and thought I'd stay away from Samsung now even though I love my S5, b/c rooting and flashing looks pretty bleak for Sammy devices now. Guess I'll have to see what happens with the S2 9.7 as its the only tab that has my interest.

Sorry to bump a thread
Was in the market for a cheap tablet on the Black Friday deals and noticed that the Galaxy Tab S2 had £100 knocked off it (both the big and small tablets) so after reading some reviews and seeing that they were generally all very favourable, decided to take the plunge on a white S2 (8").

Picked it up on the way home from work and been playing with it most of the evening.
I'm so impressed. I posted a few days ago about how I liked Samsung's version of Android on their mobile devices and this tablet does not disappoin either.

It's such a great size and feel in the hand. Sure iPad is built better due to the all metal design, but this still feels solid enough and with a good even weight.

The screen is completely glorious. What's most impressive though, is how well the tablet performs. It's quick, fluid, doesn't feel laggy in the slightest.

Will post more thoughts on it over the weekend but I'm so impressed so far. For £219 it's an absolute steal. Especially given the on board memory of 32gb and the option to expand it with a memory card. Which I have! Hello my music collection and old photos!

Colour me impressed!

I missed this thread when it came out. I love the form factor of the iPad mini, and so it's interesting to see an 8 inch Android tablet with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Despite what the article says, it looks like only the 8 inch tablet is 4:3. The article says the resolution of the larger tablet is 2560x1600, which is 16 x 10.

I checked Samsung's site, and both the 8 inch and the 9.7 inch are 4:3 with 2048 x 1536 pixels.

Yes, they are both 4:3. Last years tablet was 16:10 with 2560x1600 resolution.

Samsung Tab S2 in my opinion is the best android tablet, the only one that truly competes with iPad Air 2. The pixel c is already having issues and it's just not ready for prime time.

I too just picked up the 9.7 tab S, after I sent back the Ipad Pro (Nice But way too Large) and sold my Ipad Air 1. The S is really nice, the screen Fantastic, speakers are serviceable but I mostly listen thru earbuds. The Amoled screen has convinced me that my next ipad purchase won't be till they adopt them prob in a couple iof years, I hope to get that much out of my Tab S

I got one of these for Christmas. My wife got it for me. At first she got me the 9.6" Tab E because Best Buy was sold out of the 9.7" Galaxy Tab S2's but the Tab E was only a 16 gb and not enough internal space and she wanted to get this one anyways. So after messing with the 9.6" Tab E, I asked her to get the 8" instead so that's what I got the next day. I like it much better than the 9.7". Easier to handle with one hand.

Beautiful screen and I just like it much better. Got it for $349 and got the 100 GB of one drive. Battery life has been pretty good I think. 3.5 hours on screen time, 8 hours from last charge and I've got 44% left

. Syced up with my GS 6 and my lockscreen is the same and I've got everything on this that is on my phone.
Mine is black and this is the first tablet I've ever had. The back has that soft touch for a better grip which I like drive is hard metal around it. Very thin device. I stuck my 32GB micro SD card in it that was in my GS3 so though I could of went bigger,it is fine and it already had all my music on it.
Iuse it to make Hangouts calls and video calls which is cool since it is the WiFi version.
