Interesting.

Honestly, voice quality, speaker quality, and GPS/cell reception is superior on my Moto X versus my 5C.

The phone app is sooo '00s :p

Anyways, been using an iPhone since 2010 and haven't had call issues, so not sure how much better it could be. How much of it has to do with the carrier as well?

Call quality and cell signal/strength are both better on my 5S than on my Nexus 5....but I expect that.

What I didn't expect was that my Nexus 5 gets half the wifi speeds my iPhone 5S does....and I have an AC capable router which my Nexus 5 can utilize but my iPhone 5S can't....

If there was a Google store, I'd take it in but I don't really feel like shipping it off.

FINALLY someone out there is doing real, reproducible scientific testing for sound in telephones. I'm a little surprised, but of modern phones, iPhone 5s is sub-par. Looks like Samsung is in my future as they now offer far superior voice quality, which to me is the most important factor in any phone and trumps all other considerations.

As said by someone prior to me in this thread, Samsung is a customer. Apple is not. This is akin to astroturfing. Why not look at the company, their news releases and who there customers are?

Can you imagine them issuing a report (I cannot) stating that the iphone has better call quality. Not in a million years.

Here is a link to their news releases:

http://www.nxpsoftware.com/news-events/ - scroll down.

And here is their customer list specifically with respect to Samsung:

The amount of this bs marketing is out of control.

This is a total aside, but I picked this up an hour ago when I read about Blackberry winning the Best of Biz award for best smartphone of 2014. Sounds wild, yes, but this is Best of Biz (you all have heard of it no?) Several sites carrying this rubbish http://www.marketwatch.com/story/bl...z-awards-2014-international-2014-08-13-917349

As one Crackberry member (a rare sane one noted) this is how you qualify:

You nominate your company! As many times as you want! As long as you pay.

After having a Note 3, S5, iPhone 5s, G3, and finally now an m8, I can say with a great deal of certainty that the m8 blows every other current phone out of the water in call quality for me.

Not surprising, I have always thought that the iPhone's voice quality (actual usage as a PHONE) was subpar. It may excel at many things but as a phone there are many others that are far better.

I agree, I always thought the iPhone had pretty weak voice quality on both ends and speakerphone.

I keep reading that about M8 and I know that HTC has a long track record of excellent voice quality going back to Windows Mobile days (though they definitely has some duds in there too). I just can't get over that suck camera or I would buy one.

Haha not only does the camera suck, but for some stupid reason they decided to coat the rear camera lens with some sort of coating that looks like crap no matter how well you take care of it. There are diy fixes that remedy the issue but still it's too bad. I find the pics when the lens is clean are pretty great actually and the duo camera is fun to play with. Overall its still my favorite phone out of anything that's out right now

Very interesting report created by the people whose software and/or technology runs on Samsung handsets. Very objective, I am sure of it...

This is just an advertisement!

THIS, I wonder why nobody else notices, but I guess bashing another ones phone just makes to much fun. :roll eyes: (May it be Apple or Samsung or whoever.. I guess it doesn't matter, there are always those people... :p)

Nevertheless the iPhone is WAY below the other phones on objective measures, and they're freely reporting when their phone/software combo is worse. This is objective *repeatable* testing, which is astonishingly rare on supposedly "tech" websites. Why can't the big name websites ever do objective testing? It's all two bit journalistic opinion, and half the time outright shilling (lying) probably for payment and we all get shafted.

I have had, S5, M8 and 5S, reception and call quality no different for me using mainly bluetooth.

Speaker phone is different.
M8 Great
5S Good
S5 piece of crap.

And 5C has better reception than all 3 in rural areas in Australia.

Just to follow up on this, I've been digging around and found the HTC One E8, that seems to be more or less the M8 with a plastic body but a REAL CAMERA and the same stellar M8 voice quality. After iPhone 6 comes out I'm gonna try to get them side by side and then I'll likely choose the one with better voice. I'll try to come up with some kind of objective testing too and post the results back here - maybe even just recorded audio files that everyone can listen to and compare for themselves.

I have an Upgrade ready to burn for the iPhone 6 so I'd be interested in hearing about the findings of said test.

I doubt I'll have anything to report until October-ish the way my schedule is looking, and also as I doubt they'll have highest end iPhone models in stock until then at the optimistic earliest anyway. Last year I ended up having to order and wait for my gold 5s 64GB as there was no other way to get one.

The camera is certainly not as good as on the iPhone, but it's good enough for all web stuff. If you are looking for something to replace a digital camera, then of course the HTC is not the right choice. Having said that, probably no phone can really replace a good digital camera..
