When you buy a 16GB iPhone 5c, you get 12.60GB of storage space left over after taking into account iOS 7’s default install size. Comparatively, the Samsung Galaxy S4 was the worst bang for the buck, storage-wise, in smartphones: a paltry 8.56GB of internal space was available to the user to store apps and media upon.

Even the S4, though, was roomy compared to the newly announced Galaxy S5. A 16GB Galaxy S5 comes with less than eight gigabytes of usable memory.

How is this lying per say? Does it not have 16gb of storage? ROM takes that storeage or does it pull space from thin air? If this is the technicality, then even the iphone will be a "lie" since it does not offer the user the ammount of storage space that is mentioned in its spec.

If you crack open the phone and look at the mainboard you will find a 16gb chip. Therefore it has 16gb of internal storage. It does not say all of that is usable in and fact in many cases you will see in fine print "formatted capacity may be less"

You should buy the S5 and sue Samsung for $600,000,000,000

S5 has an 32 GB internal storage option and all of them have an expandable memory slot up to 128 GB. It has OTG too.

Problem solved. Case closed.

I don't understand why this would be a big deal.

It has an internal SD card slot and memory is cheap.

Also how are they meant to advertise the memory? It has a 16GB chip, and free storage will vary depending on the ROM size (likely to vary over the phones lifetime).

Actually this does matter. But if you can't see it, you can't see it.

Not every app will run from, or store to, a microSD card. The Galaxy S4 will not allow storage of Google Play Store content to a microSD card.

While Samsung may claim it is going to make a 32GB option, that doesn't mean carriers in the US will sell it.

What i don’t get is the note 3 started with 32GB...why doesn’t the S5? As i’m guessing the note 4 will start with 32GB as well.

And this is the problem. Thankfully the Note 3 came with 32GB. I tried the S4 but the 16GB was not enough.

So what. You put your music on the MicroSD and the Apps on the main memory. I wish i had that option with my Iphone.

That's what the MicroSD card (up to 128GB) is for. Download and save it there. It is not the prison-caged Iphone for pete's sake.

Some Apps can't be put on the SD card. The google play movies and TV shows can only be stored on the device.

Talk about lies, please stop spreading false info.

Movies and other files _are_ stored on the SD card. It's the customary practice.

Especially the ones who have no clue about Android.

Would you care to explain to me how I can move TV Shows and movies I've purchased from the Google play store to my SD card?

I'm not talking ripped DVDs. My device is not rooted and I don't want to root it.

So you're saying all Phone manufacturers lie, some just more than others?

Every phone manufacturer already has a disclaimer stating that available storage may vary due to pre-installed software.
