It really is a great ad, there was another one like it when the 4S came out. Very effective.

Have any of you played with a Galaxy S3? It's a pretty amazing phone in its own right. Galaxy S3 + iOS would probably be perfect.

When I went to the Verizon store today to pick up my otterbox case I got to hold the GS3 for the first time. It's like picking up the ring from LOTR. You know you want to, but your are so invested into the apple ecosystem that you cannot. Either way I am 100% sure I will enjoy my i5.

I actually thought that video was classier than some of their previous stuff. They just make direct comparisons. They don't go out and call anyone fools. It's all implied. Clever marketing. Much like the Mac v PC of yesteryear. :)

I agree, the ad is nicely done, I enjoyed it and it made me feel even happier with my decision to get a Galaxy S3 last week. What Samsung is doing here is really no different than the Mac vs PC ads that Apple ran for several years.

Love how S3 can squirt playlists.

Damn, I wish iPhone had more useless features like that. :D

Interesting. So boys these days don't make custom playlists to impress girls? Heck, we used to make custom tapes all the time.

Anyway, as pointed out in another thread, there are many other things that NFC beaming is good for.

The ones I use most often are "giving" someone else a website or video I'm looking at, letting them see the Market entry for an app I'm using, and sharing map or navigation info when we're all departing for a new meetup spot.

Don't even have to have them in your contacts or anything. Just hold the phone backs close together, tap the "okay to beam" button that pops up, and you're done sharing whatever it is you wanted to share.

Apparently Blackberry users with NFC do this, too. Of course, Palm Pilot users beamed info all the time back in the old InfraRed LED days.

This is so true. Competition is good, Samsung is a great brand, and I'm glad there are at least a couple of major options out there to keep Apple in check. But yeah, just think of a GS3 running iOS natively. *Drool*.

The answer is simple really. Get a new iPod touch next month or an iPad so you can keep all your iOS stuff and use the SIII as your phone. That's what I do. I have both platforms

I know this is a pro Samsung sub-forum but these ads are getting lame. It's time for their ad agency to come up with something else. I wonder how effective they are in terms of sales.

Considering the S line sells almost as well as the iPhone, I'd say it works fairly well.

Make fun of iPhone users. That'll make me switch!

Don't overestimate the market power iPhone users have - last year around 10% of the cell phones used in the US was an iPhone, so there are lots and lots of other potential customers out there.

This is quite clearly not aimed at current iPhone users, but towards all those that find the hardcore Apple crowd (which luckily is just a small part of the total iPhone customer base) to be a curious and strange bunch of people. And it is spot on - everyone knows at least one iPhone user that acts a bit over the top when it comes to his 'religion'.

:D

Samsung,

Thanks for the free ad. But you still owe us $1+ Billion.

iLove,
Apple

PS
Your phones are fugly, that's why. Spend your money on great tech designers.

:D

Well, they didn't pay 1 billion, and they never will via appeals.

And, so by fugly? You mean?!

Better
Faster ( Look up S3 benchmarks on Jelly Bean, they rape the poor little 2 year old iphone 5 :( _
Stronger
More Features
Longer battery life.
Not garbage. ;)

PS:

I loved my 3GS, but apple has failed to step it up.

----------

And what is up with them referring to it as the "Samsung GS3"? I guess they don't even want to build a brand behind the name "Galaxy" anymore.

Sure they do, its just possible to refer to a product as more than just one name.

Best selling Android Phone this year, excepted to crack 30 million units this year. Sure, not iPhone numbers for sure, but very impressive.

----------

with what? samsung bloatware?

Under Jellybean ( yes you can install it easily, yes the phone will be updated with JB very soon ).

Faster than your iPhone 5 in benchmarks by a massive margin?

----------

Make fun of iPhone users. That'll make me switch!

They speak the truth.

What has apple brought to the table with the iPhone 5.

Nothing.

I miss the 3/3GS days.

----------

So basically Samsung is branding their potential customers as stupid. What a way to win over new customers. Good job Samsung.

Well considering Apples entire business plan is to appeal to people who don't know the difference between an LCD monitor and a dial up modem ;)

----------

Their advertisements really do scream, "desperate".

Being the biggest smartphone maker, and reaping billions and billions every quarter is desperate?

----------

Why is everyone going to have to buy the adapter? If it wasn't for my wife using her (imo stupid) Bose sound dock we would never have needed one. I would just make do with the one cable that came with the phone until cheap cables were readily available. I'm sure many are the same.

It means,

1: apple profits selling overpriced adapters
2: Vendors profit by having to remake all the extra products.

Consumer loses.

----------

Phones now a days are more about the software working with the hardware. I think after all these years android has definitely improved however iOS just works. It makes sense how many hundreds of phones are there that use android? Its hard to make an OS that works for so many different phones.

Of course iOS just works, its not an OS, its an app drawer with some settings menus.

Back when I had my iPhone? Loved it, top tier, the best. No one else could come close!

Today. Crap imo. Lets take that 100 billion dollars and overhual iOS apple!

----------

Thats actually quite a good ad. love the way it shows how old folks are stuck with iphones and the cool people have moved on to the S3.

Old folks are NOT stuck with the iPhone.

I think the iPhone is a great phone, but I do not think its the best, and I don't think " everyone " has moved to the GS3, I love my GS3, but its not for everyone.

----------

That's how I think of these ads. I would never go back to android after my droid usage. I just like the iphone design too much to switch. I really think 4" is the perfect screen, maybe 4.5" anything bigger makes you stretch.

Oh well. There's a phone for everyone.

Try ICS on a high end android phone, or Jelly Bean.

There are these things called " features "

----------

My point was making an ad to try and ridicule another company is like begging for custom. And Im sure there are "stupid" android customers aswell who only buy a new phone for an even bigger and laggier experience.

Laggy? How is my GS3 running JB Laggy? Please tell me?

----------

The first Samsung ad that made fun of apple was amusing to say the least I mean I laughed but now it's just kinda stale and not really funny....like somebody said here it just screams desperate lol.

Plastic is not a bad material, its a great durable, resistant versatile material.

----------

That is because NOBODY is waiting in line for a Samsung phone.

Says the the fact that Samsung is the biggest smart phone maker?

----------

Should have invested that ad money in the phone itself.

Why? The GS3 is a great awesome, super fast, feature loaded, reliable and well made phone for a fair price.

I'm agnostic to brands, if Apple can do better, I'll buy from Apple.

----------

Didn't they do this already... They're SO creative

Like Apple was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Creative blindly attacking Microsoft and its users?

Samsung's video ad was pretty funny, unlike their lame print ad.

That having been said; I can't believe how many hard core fandroids there are on this thread.

I own a Galaxy S3 that replaced my iPhone 4 as my primary mobile phone. I wanted the following things:

- A significantly larger screen than 3.5 inches.
- Better battery life than my iPhone 4
- Better data and voice (especially voice) than AT&T's lousy coverage here in Seattle.

I found all of that with the Verizon Galaxy S3. I had an iPhone 5 preorder in that I cancelled.

That having been said, the iPhone 5 will certainly feel better in one's hand. The Galaxy S3 feels like a plastic piece of *****. I'm willing to put up with it for the awesome AMOLED screen, but otherwise, it's lousy.

Many Android apps are inferior to their iOS equivalents. Yelp and Onebusaway are the two that really stand out as being lousy.

On the other hand, there are lots of awesome Google applications and it's nice to still have Google Maps with transit directions.

Syncing? Ha. There are those that say dragging and dropping files on an Android phone is just fine. It isn't. I have a lot of playlists on iTunes that won't work for this. Fortunately iSyncr works for bringing them over, but it's not as refined or slick as iTunes working with an iPhone directly, to say nothing of iCloud.

I'm sticking with my S3 for the remainder of its 2 year contract, but I can't say I'll necessarily stay with Android after that (iPhone 7 anyone?). Android is not better than iOS. It's different. You can root your phone and customize the hell out of it, but 98% of the smartphone market doesn't care about stuff like that.

While Apple is trying to come up with something good, Samsung makes a dozen phones trying to get it right and use ads to attack Apple in the process.

Come on Samsung, stop wasting your time.

So what makes the GS3 Bad?

----------

Love how S3 can squirt playlists.

Damn, I wish iPhone had more useless features like that. :D

But I bet....if Apple brought out the same thing.... You'd say its gods and st peters personal gift to mankind.

----------

Ah so this is where some of the Fandroids have been hiding lately. Ever since the iPhone have been trumping Android devices in multiple categories and reviews I was beginning to wonder where they have been posting. Huddled in the corner with Samsung's ad declaring it as smart or amazing. :p

So, by trumping, you mean beating iOS in marketshare almost three times over?

----------

The only people who don't like this ad are iphone fanboys.

Haven't seen anything negative about it until I came here. Even regular iphone users thought it was funny.

I don't think that.

I thnk the iPhone is awesome for some people, just not for everyone.

----------

lol, at least they didn't embarrass themselves again by running an ad in the middle of the Super Bowl bragging about how their device has a stylus.

Whats wrong with a Stylus?

Wacom Tablets have a Stylus....they must be crap. ( For the slow, a Wacom tablet is the BEST graphic design tablet in existence )

----------

Hilarious. Does not matter which side you like better, that was funny.

It was funny, it calls out iSheep imo.

But, I don't think it went for most users. Which is good.

----------

Oh yeah, I can't wait for the iSheep to take one thing I said out of context, qoute me, say I hate apple and I should leave this website.

DISCLAIMER:

I thought the first 1phone was crap, my windows mobile could do everything, and then some compared to the 1st iPhone, then they went to the 3G, still underwhelmed by specs ( worse than my 2006 Windows Mobile phone ).

Then the 3GS came out, I was interested, I bought, and I loved it, still have it in a drawer, it was a great phone.

Then I went android, loved it, went Samsung replenish ( it was free ), low end android phone got me hooked, I paid full price for a Samsung Galaxy S3, Love it love it love it, I thank my iPhone 3GS and my Little samsung replenish for getting me fully into the smartphone world, and I LOVE my Galaxy S3.

If Apple can make a phone as good as the 3GS was for me, I'll be more than willing to buy.

Claims their phone is the best invention since slice bread. Rushes to Apple based site to brag about it, makes sense. Instead of browsing an android forum looking for cool new apps/mods/etc they use so much energy bragging about how great their phone is. I bet you fanboys spend more time touting their whatever device and the "look what I can do" mentality then using the actual device itself for any sort of productivity. We get it. You enjoy your phone. We enjoy ours. :D

While I really like the sharing features of NFC, usually when I want to share something, I'm not near the person I want to show it to anyway, which is why I'm pretty happy about the photo stream sharing ability in iOS6, so I can share a bunch of photo's easier instead of using MMS or email. I have to admit that I would love to try out the GS3 sometime or any high end Android device, I just don't want to spend that kind of money on "spare" phone just to try it out.

The S3 already had the photo sharing thing a while ago. The made an ad about that but not specifically making fun of Apple.

----------

this ad is a perfect representation of how a company like samsung thinks

never miss an opportunity to bash apple in an ad..

..apple rarely, if ever, mentions the competition in one of their ads...its all about the phone and what it can do.

samsung is more concerned with what apple is doing than anything..its almost weird

Hi I am a Mac.. ring a bell? It's what companies do. Btw Steve Jobs and Tim Cook they **** and bleed like you and me. No magic fairy dust and holier then thou....

What you are complaining about is basically only due to having been in the itune system for a while. Google play music works just as well as icloud. I use double twist myself and it works just fine keeping the files updated. Yes it's not cloud storage/etc crap. But I don't have/want to pay for a large data plan. So for me it's not a big issue that I can only sync at home.

Being able to just drag and drop file is great. It's how I keep my nexus 7 loaded with videos for the commute to work. My coworker has to do a round about way to get work related PDFs onto their ipads. I just drag drop and I have my datasheets etc on my tablet.

iCould is a relatively late comer to the scene. Before you had the rather clucky itune experience. It's still rather clunky to be honest. Why can't the apps on my iPad just update on it's own? There's no good answer to that.

But over all I agree with you it's not like one system is head and shoulder better. You really use what you are comfortable with.

Has it always been just the S3 though? I thought this was a feature for a couple of different phones for a while. I swear I've seen other people doing with non-S3 phones.

you have to admit, most of what this ad is saying is chorused by the members on this forum. "We'll get that next time" is becoming the battle cry of the die hard iPhone user. I don't even like the S3 but basically, this ad hits home in a lot of ways. Not enough to make me buy an S3 though.

I thought the ad was funny, personally. As for its effectiveness, I don't think it will really make people switch from an iPhone to an SGS3. I personally don't like attack ads and if it were aimed at me, I would be really upset. I can see it aimed at Android users or people who would not choose an iPhone. In this case, it would draw attention to the SGS3 away from other Android devices. I'm not sure how effective it would be to people indifferent.

Yes that five part series is fantastic. Really helped me learn about and appreciate the great things in Android.

I like that series as well. It is pretty heavy. Not sure if a casual user would actually sit through all that.

Interesting. So boys these days don't make custom playlists to impress girls? Heck, we used to make custom tapes all the time.

Mixed tapes are not mere playlists.

NFC has a max transfer rate of about 400k per second. To transfer a tape's worth of content would not be a one second transfer like shown in the commercial.

But showing two men touching hands and phones for 5 minutes while songs transfer might look weird outside of Greenwich Village, so I understand why Samsung used a trivial, gimmick example instead.

If you took the time to do a littler research you would know that the transfer is initiated via NFC with the actual transfer done over Wifi Direct (up to 300Mbps).
