I guess you meant 1,000 MB/s (not 1,000 mbps = 125 MB/s). How to accomplish 1,000 MB/s without RAID 0 on USB 3.1 Type C (reversible) Generation 2 interface? SSD using it reach about 500 MB/s, like Samsung Portable SSD T5. The ones doubling that have RAID 0 inside.

I want to buy another T5 but I'll hold off for this instead! I know it's petty but the only reason I'm not buying an X5 is because they're fugly as.

I thought the same as you the first time that I saw Samsung Portable SSD X5 on Internet, but I also have such model and it is nice as well. Samsung Portable SSD T5 is more minimalistic, but X5 needs to be larger to prevent heat throttling. Indeed, while T5 keeps cool even when booting and working from it all day long, X5 gets hot during usage.

And the major difference between the Samsung X5 and Samsung T7 may be the port they use (thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 Gen2 respectively).

Actually I'm very curious about how will they control the temperature to reach good performance since I have just diy an external ssd using Samsung 970 EVO and a ssd enclosure, which will get very hot even in the idle state.

That is why I prefer to purchase full complete solutions (SSD inside plus enclosure) from the same manufacturer, even if more expensive.

Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch (note its name: Touch instead of Plus):

It is about twice as fast for sequential benchmarking (1,050 & 1,000 MB/s read/write, respectively) than the great Samsung Portable SSD T5 (540 Mb/s). Hopefully, Samsung will release soon higher than 2TB capacity external portable SSD (4TB, 8TB and 16TB), perhaps with the "Plus" name.

I've just bought a new Samsung Portable SSD T7. I've plugged into my MacMini (late 2014
3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 and running iOS 11.6.2) and it's not appearing in Finder. Neither is it appearing in Disk Utilities, even when I click the "View" menu and click "all devices". What am I doing wrong?
