So Samsung again takes Smartphone of the year at the Global Mobile Awards for 2013. From the start of the GS1 they're on quite a roll and don't seem to be letting up. I think this is the first year where Apple didn't win a single award. Interesting.

Best Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S3

Device Manufacturer of the Year: Samsung

Best Mobile Infrastructure: Samsung Electronics for Smart LTE Networks

Outstanding Overall Mobile Technology – The CTO's choice: Samsung Electronics for Smart LTE Networks

Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronics Device: Samsung Electronics for Samsung GALAXY Camera

Best Mobile Tablet: Google and Asus for Nexus 7

Judges Choice – Best Overall Mobile App: Waze

Best Feature phone or entry level phone: Nokia Asha 305

COMPLET LIST OF WINNERS

Yeah, Sammy has really made some serious progress in only a span of 3 short years. The difference in experience using a GS3 and a GS1 is MASSIVE. Congrats to all the winners.

Did apple win anything?

Shorest refresh Cycle of any new product - iPad 3/4
Most devices restricted with OS upgrades for no reason - iPhone 4, iPad 2
Device delivered before the hardware was ready - iPad 3

I am KIDDING Apple fans, only KIDDING....well not about the iPad 3 refresh.

Well gee willikers.....if this award ceremony I never heard of says Samsung is the best, than by golly I should run out and get me one!

Politics...nothing more. There isn't a major award show/event out there isn't mired in politics.

Congrats to Samsung - HTC was Device Maker of the Year in 2011....oops.

I know I bought one for my wife and she loves it...seems Apple felt it wasn't amazing enough until it had an upgraded dock connector...which just had to be done ASAP.

The retina screen was great but the processor couldn't match the graphics and screen resolution increase. It's still a good tablet for those who don't care or don't notice the lag.

Sure - because I have a vested interest in whether Apple wins an award at this thing or not

I simply think all these award events are worthless....

But like I said - congrats to Samsung ;)

Im sure the response would have been different had it been Apple that won.

As I said, sour grapes.

Nah - still wouldn't mean anything. I hadn't even heard of these awards until someone used Samsung's win as an argument that the GS3 was better than the iPhone 5.....

Believe what you want.....I use both (Nexus 4 personal, iPhone 5 for work) and like both (though I'm a little peeved at my Nexus 4 at the moment).

Keep your bias to yourself.

Im not bias in the slightest, I just know what works for me and what performs best.

Awards that no one knows or cares about that Samsung slipped a few dollars to get extra attention? Come on....

Hm, I wonder if you'd be saying the same thing if Apple won these awards. I do wonder!

I have a feeling it'd matter in that case.

Ha! iPhone 4 wins Best Mobile Device at MWC 2011 without even showing up

Ha! indeed. :p

Now, the award is NOTHING. NOTHING THEY TELL YOU! (until Apple win something again, then it's all unicorns and butterflies) ;):D

iPhone 4 still dominating....

http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2011/02/16/iphone-4-named-phone-of-the-year-at-mwc/

“Great screen, sharp design, fantastic materials, and phenomenal ecosystem for app developers. In a tight race, the iPhone 4 built on the success of its predecessors to set the pace for smart phones.”

DOMINATING!

EDIT: And the iPad 2 got some love on the same awards - which also mattered.

Keep stoking the fanboy war fires....

I wonder when fans of both platforms will actually be able to have a logical, thought-provoking discussion on these forums without it erupting into some rager about how Android is the most advanced OS because of "true multitasking".....

I'm extremely close to swearing off MacRumors forums all together....
