I'm extremely close to swearing off MacRumors forums all together....

I'm very close too, this place is turning into a Android/Apple hate forum. Almost every thread that is about iphone you get lovely comments like this
I like my iPhone 5...BUT. It is starting to feel stale. Meanwhile, Samsung keeps pushing the envelope with the Galaxy series (Note, S3)....

Agreed. And any comments that perhaps a bigger screen and yet another way to silence your phone aren't really huge innovations are met with the typical "You're an Apple fanboy" and "iOS is a kid's toy" responses.....

Oh and haven't you heard!? Unless you criticize Apple, you aren't a REAL Apple fan....so we have the "real Apple fans" bashing Apple, the Android fans bashing Apple, and those of us who just want to have a decent discussion on both platforms being dismissed and belittled....

Oh what wonderful forums!

Awards that no one knows or cares about that Samsung slipped a few dollars to get extra attention? Come on....

did Samsung slip a few extra bucks to the millions of people that bought the gs3 that broke every single android record?Did Samsung go into everyones homes and hypnotize people to go out and buy the gs3?

there is a reason the Samsung android phones sold more then every other android cells put together and that reason is its the best phone.

sour grapes taste so good

But I thought sales numbers didn't matter? ala, Ford sells more than BMW....blah blah blah....

Double standard at its finest. If I told you Apple sold more iPhone 5s than Samsung did GS3s and therefore the iPhone 5 is better, you'd be foaming at the mouth and berating me on why sales numbers don't make a phone the best...

Personally, I don't use sales numbers to do so - because neither is "the best smartphone"....there isn't a "best smartphone" overall....simply what each user deems best for them.

Just love being proven right though....thanks ;)

re read what I quoted and my response.

I don't see ford getting any awards like bmw does and from the q4 results it looks like apple might of out sold the gs3 so what does numbers have to do having a double standard.

when someone says Samsung paid to get the award and then I state that Samsung has blown away every other android maker in sales and that reason is that its the best phone.I could care less about the ios as android has over 70% workd market share and out of that 70% Samsung is killing it with there phones.

did you maybe for a second just think that the gs3 might just really be the best cell of the year?

I don't see anything wrong with the comment. Maybe the problem is you and other iOS fanatics who can't accept the fact that there are other things that people like.

For some it was - but as a blanket statement, no I've never considered it. Just as I don't consider the iPhone 5 to be the best cell of the year overall....

----------

I don't see anything wrong with the comment. Maybe the problem is you and other iOS fanatics who can't accept the fact that there are other things that people like.

Except for that comment is repeated 1000 times a day on these forums - whole threads are created on how iOS is boring and stale and behind while Samsung is innovative and awesome....

Except when confronted with issues in Samsung's phones, or with Android, or with the fact that many of their "features" aren't really innovation, the argument becomes "well you're not a true Apple fan because you can't see the problems iOS has" or "you're a fanboy because you can't see that Samsung/Android is better."

The point being - there is almost no intelligent discussion on the problems in BOTH platforms. When someone brings up issues in iOS as "crippling" and I rebutt with either a method that takes care of the issue, or that the issue isn't something I personally face, heck or even when I concede the point - I'm blasted. Yet if I were to bring up a similar issue I face on my Android - I'm blasted again and there are ZERO concessions.

And all on MACrumors.....

Like I said - on these forums there the "true Apple fans" who bash Apple, there are the Android fans who bash Apple, and there are those of us who like both and are the ones who get bashed.....it gets rather tiring.

I really don't understand the dismissals and arguing over this.

If it's Samsung winning one award, Apple will be topping another list.

This has been going on for years.

All are accomplishments in business. Just because company x wins something instead of company y, doesn't knock or belittle the efforts or products that you may prefer.

Carry on using your stuff. Maybe even emit a wry smile if your chosen product is bestowed some arbitrary award.

It's not really worth arguing over, is it?

So you have a problem with a company getting an award...its not a blanket statement, look at the sales and buzz the cell has built up.

I know you don't like numbers but a cell that pre sold 9 million(more then any iphone in history)deserves its time in the spot light.

This has to be one of the best statements I've heard in awhile :)

Oh I'm fine with it winning an award - I just don't put much stock in it. Same as winning an Oscar for Best Picture doesn't automatically make it the best movie of the year. Are there reasons it won the award? Of course. I've never said the GS3 was crap or a terrible phone....

Don't put words in my mouth. As a general statement, I do NOT agree there is a best overall for everyone phone. And to your 9 million presale number, I'll counter that the iPhone 5 sold roughly 32.4 million in 2012....that's in a span of about 4 months.....conversely, the GS3 has sold roughly 40 million as of Jan. 14.....roughly 8 months after release - these are worldwide numbers....

Sales don't make the phone. Like I said before - congratulations to Samsung. But using this award as some concrete fact that makes the GS3 the best smartphone of 2012 is ridiculous.

----------

This has to be one of the best statements I've heard in awhile :)

I'm getting a little fed up with some of the ilk on these forums....let's have some intelligent discussion. And if I need to be realistic about the platform I prefer, so should the other side.

Personally, I use both and enjoy both. I was having issues with my Nexus 4 the last couple of days - which is probably why I posted some more "intense" comments :p

But truth be told I have an underlying opinion on the two that basically states neither is better than the other overall and the phone doesn't make the user - the user makes the phone.....

Unfortunately, most people I converse with here seem to get hung up there....

"What do you mean my Note 2 isn't the greatest device ever invented, bestowed upon us lowly humans by the gods!!!!"

actually its over 60 million but ill leave that for another thread :) and the gs3 still broke every record in presold phones, not even the iphone 5 presold 9 million.Going from memory I think it was 5 million on what site and 7 on another and the gs3 sales droped not because of the iphone but it had the gs3 mini and note2 to compete with.If those were not avail the gs3 would of sold even more.

so you don't think the gs3 was the best cell for 2012?

In your opinion what phone was it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III

Try again.....unless you can provide a source? Given the GS3 was at an estimated 30 million about halfway through the fourth quarter and they sold roughly 15 million during the entire fourth quarter, 40 million is more likely (or at least possible, unlike 60 million).....

Keep stoking the fanboy war fires....

I wonder when fans of both platforms will actually be able to have a logical, thought-provoking discussion on these forums without it erupting into some rager about how Android is the most advanced OS because of "true multitasking".....

I'm extremely close to swearing off MacRumors forums all together....

You really think if the awards were won by Apple people wouldn't hold those awards to higher esteem?

Come on now.

Doesn't matter....shouldn't you be the bigger man? How about those of us who tend to discuss more intelligently leave the petty bickering to the countless number of posters who will undoubtedly pick up the "fanboy war" anyway.

Personally, I had no idea Apple had ever won these awards in the past - in fact I never knew they even existed before someone used the GS3's win as "proof" it was superior to the iPhone 5....
