Dissecting the incident, I'm 50/50 as to whether it was a good move or not.
On the one hand you have people talking about it, I wouldn't say its gone viral, but its definitely made some waves. There are a lot of people with anti-Apple sentiment for whatever reason, so they'll lap this up and get wood for the company that was behind it and it may even translate in to sales for said product (that was until I heard it was by RIM, who buys Blackberrys these days haha).
On the other hand, you have the Apple fans. They will see this as an attack aimed at them, much like the Samsung ads recently, and will react negatively for being pigeon holed as a stereotype that they feel doesn't apply to them. The negative reaction will result in bad mouthing the company, people looking for advice on a product be it RIM or Samsung, if its coming from said Apple fan, expect it to get panned and something else get recommended instead.
We all do it, we all have friends, family members, work colleagues who will ask you for advice on a product and you will sway one way or another, depending on what you think is suited for them, what will work for them, what you think is actually a good product and also fits their budget range.
So, like I said, 50/50.
Personally, I love a bit of anarchy, just thought the move left too many questions for the layman and you have to be trawling through the geeksheets to find out who was actually behind it.
