NO NO NO

No, it is not worth the wait. Sure will be a nice improvement, but what are you going to do when it gets released? Wait for the next update!?

This is technology people, it is constatnly moving, sure i can understand people waiting a few weeks etc to get recieve the most upto date computer but I say just take the plunge and buy now, otherwise you will forever be waiting for the 'next one' - technology doesnt stand still, nor can you, whatever you buy will be outdated sooner rather than later...

Exactly, the next update is EVEN more attractive, not just 64 bit, but 45 nm process! With 50% more cache! Wow!!!!1

I'm confused! I thought that Merom was 64-bit! (see here) But it seems the main reason for waiting and not buying a new iMac is because Santa Rosa will be 64-bit?

Merom is 64 bit, but it seems like APPLE is choosing to use the old NAPA chipsets, so you can only address up to 4gb of memory.

Could some please explain to me what resolution independent UI is and what it really means to a user.
It means the parts that make up the user interface can scale up and down to be the size you want.

So you can...

fit more stuff on your screen (if you feel things are too cramped).

make the OS X menu bar scale better to the monster displays people seem to be buying nowadays.

use it to make everything larger so that it's readable. Good for people who have impaired vision. And you don't have to use the zoom function anymore.

start using a screen with double the density of pixels and have everything look the same.

- I agree waiting for Santa Rosa is not worth it.
- Maybe waiting for Leopard is ... (but it is a 6 months wait !)
- Waiting till next Tuesday (who knows?) is easy ... Maybe new iPods or something more ?

I know I can get school discount on new iMacs (probably not on the new iPods, if they come?) ... I just wish the 20'' had got the 24'' GPU options :( ...

Merom is introduced in the iMac...and not even 2 full days later..SHOULD I WAIT FOR SANTA ROSA! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not think we would see these threads..this soon!!
It's not surprised. I'm a college student too looking for a MacBook, but with so many dependent sites/apps/games that depend on Windows, I have no problems of waiting for a faster and a probable chance of a new WiFi standard chipset.
