Hi, has anyone gone through this?
I have a MacPro 5.1 2012 with X5680, 64GB RAM, 500GB SSD Samsung 870 Evo SATA and Nvidia GT 120.
Using MacOS BigSur with OpenCore 0.8.8 and OCLP 0.5.3.
Yesterday my Sapphire RX 580 8GB Pulse arrived, and I installed it on the MacPro, but when I start MacOS, Apple Loading appears, when it finishes loading, instead of entering the user screen, it has a black screen.
Any idea?

I guess you will have to install back the GT120 and run OCLP again, change the GPU setting to fit with the new GPU before replacing it.
The reason is your current OCLP setting is customized to the GT120.

1-as has been said: you need to install Sierra or High Sierra first ( with one "old" GPU installed). This card will not work in El Capitan.
2-the link @MIKX sent doesn't work (here), but it's the correct cable .

For Europe look here:
I have a Titan Ridge Thunderbolt card which is currently accounting for one of my two 6-pin power feeds. I've just bought a Sapphire 11265-09-20G AMD Radeon RX 580 without realizing that it requires an 8-pin feed. Is it possible to use a 6-8 pin converter for the Sapphire and then dedicate the 6-pin to my Titan Ridge?

I am using this card on 5,1 and it works fine with Mojave, Catalina (DosDude,) and BootCamp Windows 10. Mine is flashed, so I do get the boot menu. I am also using it with OPCLP and Monterey plus testing Ventura.

No, the Sapphire RX580 needs 2 mini 6 pin connectors to the 8 pin.

I have this running mojave.

Could I boot from a el capitan backup (so install mac el cap on a spare internal ssd on my 2010 running mojave)

Or can I only go forth with Mojave on my 2010?

Of course you can boot from any Mac OS disk you have.
The problem with El Capitan is it doesn't have necessary driver for RX580. (too old OS vs newer graphic card)
And you might have no image displayed, or very sluggish display. (sluggish to unusable extend)
