I have bought a clone of this card, but in MacOS X I can't see any external disk connected to it. Under bootcamp (and after installing drivers), I have seen one of the two disk connected to my Sharkoon dock. I have two disks attached to the sharkoon, but it is supposed that the card support port multiplier.

Under MacOS X I can see that it recognize AHCI compatible card, and says that "driver installed" = "yes", but no disk is mounted or listed in disk utility...

:(:(:(

I have been testing:

- If I use 1 HD in internal port... OK
- If I use 1 HD in external port using my double bay Sharkoon dock... OK
- If I use 2 HD in external port using my double bay Sharkoon dock... NOTHING!

Sadly, the problem is the port multiplier. I think that ASM1061 support Port Multiplier, but there will be some kind of incompatibility with the chipset used by my Sharkoon dock :(:(:(:(

EDIT: ¿Someone has tested this card with a Sharkoon Quickport Duo V2 or any other enclosure which needs port multiplier support? I'm thinking that perhaps the problem is related to simple driver implementation in MacOs X...

And under bootcamp, with the drivers provided with the card, if there are 2 disk inserted, only see 1 of them... So, drivers seem not to be the problem...

Lots of great info in this thread, thanks to you guys.

The cheap models listed in this thread look like they'd give my SSD a boost. Anyone know if there's a fairly cheap card that's x2 instead of x1? In my case I'm doing sample playback so it wouldn't need to be bootable, just work for a secondary drive. Don't need raid either, just wondering if there's an option that's a step up from the cheapest ones - bare bones features, just the ability to get full III speed.

Just got two of these bad boys. Hoping to get by thursday. Will report back.

I got one of these and it works great, 330MB/sec write/read with an Intel 120GB 330 Series SSD. Looks just like the one beto2k7 ordered above.

For a card with speeds of up to 400Mb/s, apricorn still offers a cheaper solution. Good find tho. http://www.apricorn.com/products/desktop-ssd-hdd-upgrade-kits/vel-solox1.html

Just curious, what are the fastest speeds people have seen on mac with SATA III upgrade and SSD drive? There are drives out that do over 500 megs/second, anyone actually seen those kinds of speeds?

I couldn't see anything that says these Sonnet cards are bootable... in fact it says this...

Supports booting from attached drives under Microsoft Windows 7, and Mac OS X over Thunderbolt

So it doesn't sound like it's bootable inside the MP.

What is the difference between the 2 Sonnet cards that accounts for the 2:1 price differential? I must be missing something? :)

lane length. The cheaper one is pci-e x2 while the other one is pci-e x4 thus giving you higher read/write speeds.

660mb/sec vs 960mb/sec

Ok I finally got my two Apricorn Velocity Solo X2's from amazon and I was able to put my two vertex 4 in Raid0 Directly into the pcie slots. Some Screenshots:

1. 2 x 128GB OCZ Vertex 4 Raid 0
2. 3 x 2TB WD Caviar greens Raid0

Just received my ASM1061 6.0Gbps PCI card, is it okay that it comes up in Sys-Info as "Unknown AHCI Standard Controller"?

Here's the one I bought. http://www.ebay.com/itm/170854133635?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Everything seems to be working fine. I've tested it out with a eSata enclosure I have and it's working fine. I simply had to change the jumpers for the external eSata connection.

Also, is there a specific PCI slot I should be using it in? MacPro5,1

The card can be found here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/PCIE-SATA-eSATA-CONTROLLER-CARD/dp/B00560ZOGO?tag=5336090759-21

and it works a treat, very fast with my vertex 3 SSD apps open in a blink of the eye;)

Ordered it a few days ago, got it today. I'll install it this evening, let's see how it will do.

I have two 128GB SSDs. If I place it in the PCIe x1slot, I'm pretty sure I'm bottlenecking the two cards. Is a PCie x4 slot fast enough to provide enough speed for the two SSDs in a RAID0-configuration?

Yes, but the card is only 1X so it doesn't matter where you put it. The card will be the limiting factor, not the slot.

Alright, thanks...

I just found out that I need another power cable, correct?
I connected the SSD with a SATA cable, booted my Mac, and guess what, it didn't show up.
