If I upgrade my 2009 CMP (flashed from 4,1 to 5,1) to High Sierra from El Cap, will it break the flashed firmware? Also, will it affect my PCIe SSD's (both AHCI) in any way?

Thanks.

Nope to both questions. All should work just fine. Better in fact.

Thanks. Good to know things may be even better.

I've just read about some issues with using the new APFS - I assume I'd choose not to use that format?

I have the Apple SSUBX which I believe is an SM951 with Apples custom connector. APFS works just fine here.

Thanks both.

I’d be testing High Sierra with CC2018 After Effects. I assume that by switching the drive format to APFS I’d not be able to revert back to El Cap/HFS+ via Time Machine?

You could. Just reboot to recovery mode, reformat the drive to HFS+, restore from TM. Assuming your TM and TM-Drive are healthy, I expect that would work fine.

However, if you're currently running on Cappy, I suggest you make a bootable CCC clone drive instead of a TM drive. You can boot it directly and test all you want, very quickly.

Good catch. Looking at the hardware details, the SSUBX is a PCIe 3.0 device, like the sm951. Both should be capable of 2000 MB/s reads in a PCIe 3.0 slot.

Excellent call, thanks so much.

i gave up trying to find sm951s at a normal price.

so i just went with 2 x 512gb xp941 in slot 2 and 3, runs great for everything i do. maybe later ill try 4 xp941s on a highpoint and see what it does.

I apologise if this has been asked before.
Is there any way of using an Angelbird Wings PX1 with an SSUAX/SSUBX?
Which adapter, if any, could I use to achieve this? Has anyone done this?

It's a hack, and a ugly one, useful to restore data, not to do a permanent install.
Ah, ok, not for me then. Thanks.
Which is the best Sintech to buy these days? Any recommendations or just any will do? I presume they thermal throttle like the SM951 XP941 if no heat sinks are used.

I'm using this card with my SSUBX with a nice heatsink kit, but that I bought locally. I'll try to found link for it.

It's not as nice as Angelbird products, seems amateur next to my Wings PX1, but it's cheap and works.

Yes, specs says exactly the model numbers for SSUAX.
Unfortunately seller is away and I need one sooner. Models with no heatsink are much more widely available, and cheaper.

Do the SSUAX 256GB and 512GB SSDs run hot and throttle? Do they really need a heatsink like the SM951 or not really?

All of the SSUAX models I saw installed in the trashcan, came with the heatsink. You can install a 3rd-party heatsink, some kits are really nice, with good thermal pads to install on both sides/etc.

SSAUX SSD's from the Mac Pro, with the heatsink, are x4 PCIe 2.0 devices.
