Hey guys,
I'm in desperate need for a new computer, for Gaming/school work.
I Am very interested in the New 27" Imac quad core-i7...but I'm scared.
I have read threads upon threads about the screen flickering/yellow glow and such and my question to you all is, when to buy my new imac?
I want to buy it without these problems of course.

Does anyone know when Apple will be fixing all these problems? (If they havint already)

I say save yourself trouble and wait. I went ahead and took the gamble, and my 2010 built machine is as yellow as you can imagine.

Now I have hours on the phone with Apple.

I had the same issue. 8 dead iSight pixels, a very noisy HD and the feeling that my cat could reach my screen and pee it all over every morning.

I'm going to wait till the middle of January. This sounds like an awefull long time but to be honest, I don't have the feeling that these issues will get sorted this month, or the next.

Still waiting for an official Apple newspost that gives us an idea about what is going wrong, what they're doing about it and by when they thing the problem will be fixed. Or maybe some official applogises to all those people who have had the same issues as mine, or some of the big bunch that is still around.

I'll save you the waiting. It's a design flaw with how the internal components are situated behind the new LED-lit IPS panels. Heat from the components is causing the LCD to appear yellow and uneven. It shows up in the new LED panels because they are much brighter than their predecessor due to increased pixel density. Software can't fix it, short of an entire redesign only maybe some kind of heat shield might provide an acceptable fix.

You said wait till the middle of January? but you dont think the problem will be fixed this month or next?

They are all on backorder anyway, you'll be waiting for 2 weeks at least regardless. Not saying this as fact, but my gut feeling is they are working out the issues with the 27" which might be why they are on backorder. This might be a good time for you to just order, you won't get it immediately anyway.

Can I quote this for Silliest Statement of the Year award? Heck it's only January!

My BTO wont ship until the 18th. I'd like to think that's because they're are or have been making some adjustments following the issues some people have experienced.

I sincerely doubt the issues reported affect all of these iMacs.

im waiting to see what happens.

but im still not convinced to get an all in one yet.

gotta see what the next mac pro has to offer before i decide. hopefully by then the 27 i7 will have its kinks worked out.

OK, that does sound silly, but here's Apple's own speak:
LED backlighting.

When a display has more pixels, you need to push more light through them to achieve the best picture possible. LED backlighting in the new iMac does exactly that, with remarkable brightness and efficiency

Yea, thats what I was thinking, but still it would be a B***h to get a brand new, amazing 27" imac and have to fuss with the customer service/return it. :/

I'm highly recommending to wait. It's hard to resist, but I can tell you, I didn't want to believe everything here. I had been reading it for weeks. I tried to believe only those with problems post here. However, it's overwhelming.

Sure enough, my machine had the yellow tinge. Otherwise, the machine would be worth every penny.

If they fix the screen, I'll be the first to order again!

Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

Sweet, that was a completely pointless post, that had nothing to do with this what so ever :)

How long do yea think? a few weeks? a month? a few months?

I don't mean to be negative, so I hope what I'm about to say doesn't come off that way. I'm not super hopeful for a fix soon. It has been what a good two months already and nothing has changed on these 2010 produced machines.

For me, it's not just yellow at bottom, but the entire right side of the screen.

I would love to have this machine here on my desk forever, but there is just no getting around the way the screen looks. It's not right.

I recommend waiting until we start to hear much better reports from users. I myself am coming to the realization I may have to wait until another revision to the iMac. I might try an i5 from Amazon at some point, since I can return it easily, but of course, I'd prefer this i7 like I have now, without the yellow.

I'm hoping, when things are fixed, we'll know it from responses. Good luck with your decision.

Im on the sidelines too.

Ive been dying to buy a 27" i7 but will wait until the issue is resolved. It seems Apple is aware of this problem so hopefully they are working to fix it.

My mind is made up. Im not taking the chance until Rev. B comes out.

The last thing I want to do is play the back and forth game of returns and replacements, so I wont take a chance on this machine until we start hearing some consistently good reports.

PLEASE APPLE!!!!

If you're reading this, you have many many people anxious to buy your beautiful computer. What ever it costs to install a better screen I WILL PAY THE DIFFERENCE!!!

Can we all agree that if the price got bumped say $50-$75 for a better caliber screen we wouldbnt hesitate to buy it, right? - I know I would. Of course this wont happen as I think these prices are kinda fixed in a sense, at least for several months.

Ok, not having a technical background, that does sound plausible.. However could they not catch that in the design phase? The little movie they show they are so proud of the design of this machine, but obviously somebody missed something... Interesting that my yellow tinge is down the center from top to bottom while most is on the bottom.. Wonder if the 2tb drives (which I have) cause more heat (the drive is in the middle) and that is why I have had two 2tb drive iMacs with yellow tinge down the center of the screen? hmm...

Now, now, let's be nice! ;)

FDR may have spoken those famous words 51 years before the first Mac was made but they are surprisingly apt to the situation at hand.

I bought without fear and got a nice yellow tinge-LESS i7 iMac for my efforts. Am I a lucky person? I assure you that historically I am not.

If you spend all your life hiding scared under rocks, you fail to live at all.

Face your fear, Gshizzle, it's the only way you're going to conquer it!

I get a chuckle out of all the silly 'wont buy a Rev A' machines. Please, the only true 'Rev A' machine was the Apple I. Not to say there hasn't been lemons along the way (Apple III), but come on...

Step away from the forums for awhile. I've been using my 27inch for 2 months or so now. On 24x7, in use a minimum of 8-10 hours a day, and no problems. If there was, I'd take it back. It happens.

+1

Definitely step away from the forums for a bit, and stay away from the Mel Gibson flick Conspiracy Theory. Pretty soon you'll be buying a high powered rifle, cutting the power, and sitting in the fetal position in the corner with a string tied to the door knob.

I did have to return one, but the second is perfect. It happens. No complaints here.

You should be, because it's garbage. I'm about to return my second Imac and I live 2 hours from the closest store. I'm not sure I want another one.
