Is this flickering problem unique to the 7950?

I've never had any such issue with the 7970 (which I thought was just like the 7950 but a little faster).

did you get your 7970 on macvidcards.com?

Their 60 day warranty is the only concern I have. I can get the 7950 mac edition from OWC (with 2 year saphire warranty) and get a nice rebate for my 5770.

Not sure which route to take.

Yes I got it from MVC. I personally believe you would be more satisfied with the MVC 7970. It doesn't have any of the 7950 idiosyncrasies that I've read about. It's very compatible and has Apple sourced drivers out of the box just like the 7950 so OS upgrades are a breeze. If it has no problems in the first 60 days, it's not likely to have any for the next couple of years. It COULD happen, but it's not likely. If that is a great concern, then I guess the 7950 is for you. I have to wonder how they will honor the warranty when the card isn't being produced anymore.

If mine fails during the next 2 years, I'll just pop in My old 5870 and order a newer, faster, more power efficient card.

Thanks for the response!

It shouldn’t cause any damage, just annoying. If your monitor has another input, connect that to the 7950 as well (set as mirror output) may able to fix the issue (but the card will use about 40W more during idle)
