Have any of you gotten a fix on this? My iPad is doing the same thing.

Mostly, it goes black if an app is already open and I turn the screen on. So, if I have a book open and hit the home button to wake my iPad up, the screen flashes momentarily after I unlock and then goes black. I have to hit the home button to turn it back on and that will close the app, so I have to re-launch it. I'm also having a problem with the mail app crashing quite a bit.

Any tips will be helpful! If anyone has had luck with a restore then I'll try that... otherwise I'll make a genius bar appointment for a few weeks from now... after the iP4 madness dies down a bit.

this is precisely what happens on my ipad 3g 32gb

I went ahead and did a full restore. I'll watch it for a few weeks and report back if I need to go see a genius. Fingers crossed that won't happen, though.

I did a full restore on my iPad and haven't noticed the problem with the screen going black anymore.

However, after the restore, I drop my wifi connection randomly while surfing and I do see a lot more apps crashing. No clue why that's started now, though.

Hey i am having the exact same problem. Here is my thread...

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/965913/

The screen would go black randomly every 5 - 10 minutes. I was going to do the restore thing but I couldnt be bothered to download the software and then go through the process of restoring it - if that wasnt even the problem. So yesterday i took it back to the store where they told me that the software had been corrupted somehow, but they will do the restore for me. I'll get it back tomorrow, hopefully as good as new.

I watched my boss's 32gb 3G iPad do this yesterday several times, while he was trying to move app icons to a different page. His is not jailbroken, and he didn't have any apps running. It turned itself off about three or four times, and he had to press the home button to get it to come back so he could finish dragging the apps around.

I thought it was weird. Later on, I was doing some testing on it with a different app, and I set it aside and it stayed on for the full 5 minutes that he has it set to, and it never shut off on me.

I guess his iPad isn't the only one with the strange random "shutting off while using it" issue.

I'm not sure we had the same problem, then. Mine wasn't doing it all the time, only on wake-up when an app was running. I've not had the screen go black during use at all.

Restore worked for me

I noticed the random screen blackouts during my first two weeks of owning the ipad. I restored and haven't seen the blackout problems since BUT just like you I have noticed that my wifi has been dropping out. I've had the ipad now for almost two months. Now I - just like everyone else - am waiting for an official wifi fix.
