Had my 3G naked for a year, no scratches. Have my 3GS for a month, no scratches AND the screen looks even better cause the oil just rubs right off.

i currently have one on my 3GS but i've noticed an issue when i wear polarized sunglasses, the mix of the oleophobic coating and the screen protector produces a rainbow effect... it's pretty annoying so i'm thinking of taking it off

This happens with any LCD screen and polarized glasses. Its actually much more noticeable on monochrome LCDs (like my work radio)

I haven't used a screen protector ever on any phone. My phones get beat up too much so I stopped caring.

I have had an iPhone since Summer '07, and have had each model. I have a passionate hatred for screen protectors and cases, so have never used either. To date, none of my phones have had scratches in them. Sturdy things, these iPhones! :)

I put an invisibleSHIELD on each of our iPhone 3GS units. After 24 hours the cover "cures" and there are no bubbles, etc. Looks great!

Also, I got PixelSkin silicone cases for protection. Looks like the day I purchased them... :)

I put the invisiSHIELD on my 3GS as well, but now I only have the shield on the back of the device. I didn't like the feel of it on the front screen but I have it in the leather Marware case from AT&T so it'll be safe in there.

didn't have the issue with the same screen protector and the 3G

had my 1st gen for 2 yrs, had a scratch about half an inch on it due to carelessness.

have my 3gs since day one naked, no scratches so far. i just try to keep it in a pocket by itself.

:)

been naked for a month, got two tiny tiny scratches that no one can really see unless you inspect for a long time. I'm extremely careful with my electronics too..:( oh well, guess im going back to a screen protector.

Noticed 3 scratchs on the phone while driving to Indianapolis. From just my pocket! :/ i baby it so much it's ridiculous haha. But I stuck on an antiglare and now it hides them even in the light so now I don't care as long as it doesn't bother me while I'm using the phone.

I've had my 3gs since launch day with no screen protector and the phone is perfectly fine. No scratches of any sort and the oleophobic coating works well. If i have any smudges i just wipe it against my shirt and all the smudges are gone. No breathing on the thing to get it moist then wipe etc.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Ditto. Love it!

decided to put a power support crystal protector on my 3gs after about a month of nothing. Wife got some small mnior scratches on her 3gs screen so i wanted to be safe.

I like the looks of the power support but I HATE the smudges and fingerprints. I think i was too spoiled with the Oleophobic screen on the 3gs..

its a tradeoff though... protection over convenience and looks

Purrple

I have always used ZAGG INVISISHIELD from BEST BUY. Now on my 3GS.
Cant even tell its there. Once its there, no worries. Previous once i tried did not stay on.

To those folks that said yes, how exactly do you handle your iphone? do you place it with keys in your pockets?
While I don't have a screen protector, I do have a case which covers the display (it's a Vaja ivolution Top SP).

And, yes, I have put it in a pocket with keys, but I'll generally try to avoid that. It does usually go into a pocket with coins, though.

I had a screen protector for the better part of the time I had my 8gb 3G iPhone. However, the last few months I owned it, I removed the screen protector and went completely naked. No scratches on the screen whatsoever. I have since purchased a 16gb 3G and that is also naked too. I really don't see how you could scratch up the front screen unless you take your car/house keys to the phone (and who would do that?)

Ahh

I went naked for the last week I had my 3G and I've always kept the anti glare on it or the invisible shield at first. So I was sick of em and loved the beauty if the naked screen, so I took off the film and went for it. 2 weeks later, 1 pretty deep scratch and no clue how it got there. Couple months later I got my 3GS and made sure to stick an anti glare on it. It's nice knowing I won't get a scratch on the screen. I got to admit though, the Oleophobic screen is lovely.

After over a year my iPod Touch had not a single scratch on the screen, but it did have numerous scratches on the back casing. So I decided to forgo the screen protector on my 3GS, but put an iFrogz case on it from day one. Sometimes I just want to forget the case--the phone is so pretty without it!--but i just can't bring myself to do it.

I had an invisishield on that I put on the day I got my 3gs. Hated the look. Finally decided to get the power support antiglare and go caseless. Don't care about the back getting scratched, just the screen. Ps shield came the other day, and I took the IS off and used it without the protector. Two days later, PS shields are still in the case and the iPhone is still naked and scratchfree. Haven't made a final decision yet, but I think it may stay that way. What's the point in keeping it nice if you never get to see it? Besides, I BABY my expensive toys.

I had the invisible shield on my 3GS but i hated the bubble texture and it doesn't even stick to the screen like it does to the rest of it (because of the coating). So I took it off and babied the screen as much as possible. I found a hairline scratch in the coating on the black bezel area. Now I have the power support crystal in the mail.

My first 3GS went without a screen protector on it. After a few weeks as the special coating began to wear off, I could see finger prints more and more. Luckily I bricked the phone from jailbreaking, yes even Apple couldn't fix it so I got a new one. This one got a Crystal Support anti glare film on it as soon as I got it home. Much better, no finger prints!

i used to use a case. now i only use that in the car so it doesn't slide around. never used a screen protector on the 3g or the 3gs and not had a scratch yet.
