Sure scratch isn't covered by applecare Plus but thats there is this thing called Incident where you can pay $29 bucks for a screen replacement. To each their own i suppose.
What is this thing you call "Incident"?

So now with Apple care plus having unlimited screen replacement for only $29 per incident. Does anyone still feel like a screen protector is necessary. I didn’t use one with my 13 pro max and yeah at the end it I did have a micro scratch but when I did have a screen protector I was replacing it at least every six months from wear and tear and cracks. What do you all think?

$10 for a pair of decent tempered glass protectors is cheaper, and no need to spend the time and gas driving two hours round trip to an Apple store.

Not to mention a phone that’s been opened and then resealed is most certainly not sealed to the same quality/standard as it is from the factory.
THANK YOU!
All it takes is one "less than competent" person to screw up your phone and make it necessary for an arguement and ANOTHER (at least) "two hour round trip".
In my case, closer to 3 hours at least.

I went without a protector with the 13 and couldn't have been happier. The feel of the screen is just different when you use it in its natural state. With how tough these phones have become I don't think I'll ever go back to screen protectors.

I had a screen protector on my phones because of my work environment, I spent 45 years working in industrial work as a vehicle mechanic for ten years and then the final 30+ as a aircraft mechanic. In that environment a screen protector is almost mandatory as it is rough on everything. Now that I am retired I twist wrenches in my home garage so I still have a screen protector on my new iPhone 14 Pro.

Wasn't aware it was necessary to get a screen protector when you didn't (and don't) have AC/AC+. I didn't get the memo. All these years of using my iPhones without screen protectors or cases.

Who would have thought!

I use to get screen protectors on every phone but I’m very OCD about it having a perfect fit. Plus for me it does effect image quality.

I did the same thing. Took it out of the box and put a screen protector on it. I’ll keep this phone for 2-3 years and I’ll probably put three protectors on it over that time. They get pretty scratched up.

Which ones would you recommend. I usually would get the “glass screen protector’s “ and they would usually crack more than the screen would.

I think Belkin and Spigen are two of the best. Apple sells the former.

A protector saves me a phone call or 2 to Apple, as well as having to go to the local store etc. I gladly pay that price to keep a nice screen.

I find the experience of having a screen protector much worse than the risk of scratching the screen. Every couple of years I'm clumsy enough to scratch the display, which I then exchange if it bothers me too much. It's still cheaper overall than paying AC all the time.

What is the downside of a screen protector?

I prefer using a screen protector more for being able to change it up when the oleophobic coating wears off. The constant smudges really bug me. I usually switch protectors every 3-4 months.

I use one, mainly because I want the anti-glare screen. I also have AppleCare with theft & loss monthly. The anti glare is extremely nice. Amazon for $9.

If I didn’t sell my phone every year, I wouldn’t use one. However, I try to keep my phone pristine, thus I use a case and screen protector 99.99% of the time.

Also got Apple Care +
Very easy to resell the phone the next year when there’s 0 scratches on either the screen or phone.
I just put these on our new 14 Pro Maxes and one 14 Pro. Spigen has made application easier than ever before! Even so, lol I still wasn’t paying attention and let a honking huge piece of dust land on my iPhone and had to put a new one on. User error there. Always use the dust removal sticker to catch pieces you might miss even on a fresh screen.

Once on, it’s hard to tell you’re using a display protector.

Right now my SE is naked because somehow the screen protector got cracked. Probably in my purse pocket. I’m going to put a protector back on it.

It’s always a relief when you see a big scratch or crack on your display and you remove the protector and there’s a pristine screen underneath! I don’t feel like sending my phone away for repair. I had to do that once and I don’t care for a repeat.

It doesn’t just cost $29. It also cost $10 per month! If you get your screen replaced in month 7, that screen replacement cost you $100, not $30. Or never have an issue and still spend a bunch of money.

I’ll skip the apple care, put on a case and a protector, and call it a day

Some people are ok with a bulky case and a screen protector. I'm not. I use an ultra thin case made by Totalee and no screen protector. I've used their cases for years and I've been able to trade in my phone every year for as many years as they've been offering it. I'm even considering starting to carry my phone without a case at all. That said, I'm fortunate that I live within 20 minutes of an Apple store though. I'm paying $13.99 a month for AppleCare+ Theft and Loss I want to experience my phone as it was intended. iPhones are incredibly designed and it makes no sense putting a 2 inch thick Otterbox on it and a screen protector unless you work in construction or something.

It is true but some folks like me have spent our entire working life as a vehicle and aircraft mechanic and the environment we put the phones through is rough. When I retired 5 years ago from being a aviation mechanic I set up my home shop to work on my vehicles but still use a otter box and screen protector as I still work but just at my pace and I can set my phone on my tool chest. I still have it in the otter box because there is cement on the floor and I have knocked the phone to the floor.

I have Applecare+ and always use screen protectors but other than that I’m using my iPhone 14 Plus naked. It just keeps the screen perfect and free from scratches, once one glass gets worse for wear then just install a new screen protector.
