Well, it appears there is no driver out for 14F1509 as of right now that I can find.

Using screen sharing I changed my default boot drive to my bootcamp partition for now. Oh well. Luckily I didnt need OSX for video editing or anything at the moment.
If anyone finds the update for 14F1509 please feel free to share it here.

Ugh. I'm so sorry for giving you bad advice.

That's bizarre. Seems like Nvidia is using the wrong build number... the same thing happened to someone in that Insanely Mac thread. Or were there two 10.10.5 updates recently? (First 14F1505 and now 14F1509?) You can hack the drivers to work following the instructions there (it might even work with the older version of the drivers) or wait for Nvidia to release updated drivers for 14F1509.

Its okay, I totally blame myself for not digging enough. Thanks for trying to help though.
After I found the 14f1509 number to look for a driver I finally ran into a thread of people who updated from 14f1505 to the 509 build, they too are waiting for a new driver.

It would be SO helpful if someone could keep a site up that shows the build number for each security update for each OSX version. That or Nvidia could write drivers that were not so dependent on that build number lol. I guess they have to for some reason though.

Thanks everyone. Running on my new MSI 970 right now. Kinda sweet upgrading from a 570, even my driver for the 570 in windows also was made for the 970. Only issue I had was telling windows to stop sending audio over the DisplayPort cable. It just works!
What differences do you see in performance between the 570 & 970 is OS X? The 970 draws less power so should be quieter but is it faster in applications?

It isnt any quieter in OSX because OSX kept the fan speed down on the 570 even while playing Bioshock Infinity.

As for speed within the OS, its pretty much the same. I have an SSD so if there is a improvement its too small for me to notice. I did edit 2 videos on it with the video card and final cut pro seems to be MUCH happier then before- but before then I last edited when my rig had 16gb ram and a 10K rpm hard drive. Now its 32GB ram and a 256gb ssd for osx.
Long story short, I cant tell lol.

What it does right? Gaming in bootcamp. Thats all I need to say :)

Perfect. I'll give it a go as soon as I get home tomorrow.

Well, that isnt working. I installed it and my graphics card shows up as "Nvidia Chip Model" with no video output, still have to screen share.

EDIT - OH I forgot to change the boot flag arg. 1 moment lol

EDIT- I'm back up and running in OSX on my Mac Pro. <3

Do you need to perform these steps with every OS X update for the GTX 980 (MVC modded) as well?

I suppose this reply is really late, but I was just now reading this thread.

No, those steps are not required. My MVC 980 will boot into OS X without the Nvidia driver running and without the boot args needed. Granted, it is unaccelerated and very slow, but it's good enough to download the Nvidia drivers and install them without needing a second computer and screen sharing.

Now that I am running the MVC 980TI, I have the same experience as you and it is working great. Hope these comments will help others considering this upgrade path.

I sold my macbook air a while ago and didn't have a computer to screen share with my mac pro, or so I thought!

I just want to report that using my windows 8.1 HP laptop and RealVNC viewer I am able to screen share to do the necessary driver updates even when the nvidia driver is not working on my mac pro! It works exactly as it did screen sharing to my macbook air.

I followed this guide:
http://www.howtogeek.com/214220/how-to-access-your-macs-screen-from-windows-and-vice-versa/

So technically you could do this from any cheap windows laptop/pc to get your drivers going after security updates. Just wanted to share!
