ScreenTime Parent/Child

Hi

I must be doing something wrong but I cannot seem to get screen time working on my kids iPad. I've followed the instructions and can see them in Family on my iPad, but none of the settings seem to trickle down, plus I can't see their usage either.

Any ideas what I should check - done the usual signing in and out of iCloud etc?

Ok. I think it’s me. I thought that Screentime would let me see what the kids are doing on their iPads from mine as part of family sharing. But perhaps not.

It’s not just you. Running into the same issue on my iPhone X, but it does show on my other iPhone 6s Plus. Think it may be buggy software.

it's supposed to let you see and control their activity. You installed iOS 12 on all of their devices?

Hi yes. All of us running ios12.

I can see activity and change restrictions, downtime etc on their devices. Cannot see or control anything from my device. Although I get their names up and can click through but no usage is displayed and any changes I make are not reflected back on their devices.

This is what I’m running into. Screen Time is active but there is a blank space where the device name should be. I can tap on the blank space and no data shows. If I do the same thing from our iPhone 6s Plus it will show the device name and it will function. Haven’t figured out why it won’t work from my iPhone 10.

It does. That's working for my wife and I; If we go into Screen Time on our devices, scroll down about halfway to Family, our son's name is listed there, click on it and it takes us to another screen where his device is listed up top. Under his device name it shows a message saying "As this device is used, screen time will be reported here", maybe because his device is off right now, but if we click on the device name itself it takes us to another page that has two tabs - Today and Last 7 Days. And that shows us his usage, ie. screen time, most used apps and their individual usage, pickups and notifications.

That’s strange. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this feature is still buggy, I know with notification groupings for example it’s been pretty buggy for me on iOS 12. FWIW, here’s what I’m seeing on my iPhone for my sons iPad:

Tried all the usual. Logging out of iCloud, turning off the device, signing back into iCloud. Hard resets, nothing will do it. Submitted a bug report to Apple but I guess it will be useless until an update addresses the bugs.

I spoke with Apple Support about it today. They did remote screen sharing and diagnostics. It’s being escalated. You should reach out to them as well to get your issue on record as well.

Updated all the kids' phones today and everything seems to be reporting on my phone and my wife's phone. I see some users complaining the data in inaccurate. I haven't noticed that yet.

It's been working fine on my iPhone X and son's iPhone 7. I haven't noticed any issues with data accuracy but then I'm not counting every minute. It's been working well so far and I love how I can approve/disapprove for various time lengths straight from the watch.

The only thing I wish they would improve is days of the week times. Just like Do Not Disturb scheduling, you can't set the downtime to vary depending on the day. I let him stay up later on the weekends so now he has to ask for more time after the downtime. Would be nice to set it later for the weekends.

Nothing yet, provided Apple with more logs. Best advice I can give is report to Apple tech support and ask to speak with a senior advisor so your case is recorded.

I set up ScreenTime for both of my kids, one works perfectly, and the other just shows the "As this device is used, screen time will be reported here" message.

The iPhone 6S works, the iPhone XS Max is the one with the issue.

They were both on iOS 12, and both are members of my family group.

The funny thing is that the limits that I established are enforced on his device, and when he runs out of time, I do recieve his requests for more time. So the configuration is mostly working, I just can't see the chart and stats for his usage in my device (he can see the info on his phone).

I updated all devices to 12.1 tonight, but it doesn't seem to have fixed this issue.

All that said, I really like this new feature. It's going to relieve a lot of conflict in my family, and hopefully teach my kids how to moderate their usage.

Yup, we’re having the same issue here. All the kids are in iOS12. Both parents have iPhone XS on iOS12. We can set limits but cannot see actual activity. It’s very frustrating! Hope Apple solves this soon or we’ll be returning to a 3rd party parental control solution (Curbi.com), which has its own issues but nothing as ridiculous as this.

I tried restarting my son's phone, switching the family screen time feature on and off - nothing seemed to work. Then this morning (a week after I initially turned the feature on), it started working and showed the reports for my son's usage. I have no idea what happened.
