Now that ipad0s14 is out. what do you do you think of scribble? Frankly, I am struggling with the interface it took me 5 min to write this with scribble. I could have typed it in 15. seconds. I just keep editing and re-editing mistakes.

Perhaps I need more practice. I’ve been playing with it for about an hour.

I totally don’t get scribble. I’ve gotten a lot of inconsistency and straight out fails but I’ll keep at it because the concepts look so cool.

But to be honest, I have a pencil attached at all times but rarely find reasons to use it. I’m a Smart Keyboard user so I’m pretty quick at doing just about everything through typing and shortcuts.

Yeah, same here. I think one of the keys is to only use Scribble for text that is short and simple. If it is a lengthy field or input, then use the physical or virtual keyboards.

I like the idea and I think if you do not have a MK it could be useful, but I can type a lot faster than I write (that is legible) and I have my MK attached all the time.

I agree. The more I use it, the more I am convinced Scribble is not intended to be for writing lengthy sentences or paragraphs. You are better off using the virtual keyboard in these situations. After some practice, I am having more luck with it, but just for short text input, maybe on a PDF form, note, or document annotation.

For me scribble is useless as I use pencil only to write/scribble notes in either Notes App or Notability App. Other than that, I don't use pencil when using the iPad. And on those apps, scribbling was always there ?

but, its a feature..that can be turned off, so if you don't want to use it then, just turn off. This is what I like about apple, usually they offer choices to turn on/off features ..

I exclusively use the pencil for drawing only before and found no reason to write rather than typing on MKB, but now that the notes App support hand writing, I will use it just to occasionally practice my handwriting as it's good for the brain.

I think the concept is interesting and will get better in the future

It’s rubbish. It keeps putting bits of my current sentence inside a previous sentence. Handwriting recognition has always been dodgy, and this effort is just as bad. I’ll stick to typing!!

I’ve been using ios 14 beta for two months now. I was excited to try Scribble and ended up not liking it. It took more time to correct errors than if I just typed it.

Just came on to try and find a thread to say how much I like scribble _ its much more accurate than I expected it to be, even with my messy handwriting. I'm a pretty quick typer, but can see me using this a lot.

Glad to hear it. I am trying to figure out if this is going to be useful to me or just a gimmick to get folks to buy an Apple Pencil. Still undecided. Probably takes some getting used to.

So far I think it looks promising. I use it when I write shorter sentences in portrait mode. For longer writing a connect my magic keyboard, of course. What I don’t know yet is if I can scribble faster than using the portrait mode keyboard. I will have to experiment over a longer time.

Here is one thing I cannot figure out: how to write a period. Whenever I have to write a period to finish a sentence, I always have to bring up the on-screen keyboard. Any tips?

You'll have to write period right after you finish a word. In single moment.
Or by long tapping, apparently. I just figured this out. Lol.

Also wrote this with scribbling. I'm getting faster now.

I'm having problems with the language detection of scribble. I held high hopes because they made a big deal out of it on the keynote some months ago.

I'm a polyglot and I usually have 4 different languages on the keyboard of my devices. For purposes of practicality, the "system" is set in English, and depending on what language I'm currently writing in, I just change the keyboard to the one I need and then go back.

With scribble, well, there is no Catalan for starters, and it keeps trying to detect English words without regard to the language currently selected on the keyboard. And it makes really stupid mistakes, like correctly detecting "estoy escribiendo con el" (Im writing with the) and changing "lápiz" (spanish for pencil) to "lapis" (an English word derived from latin, as in lapis lazuli). I mean, it is impossible to confuse a Z for an S. It is literally the opposite when drawing. It also fails to detect accented characters (you know, like á, é, í, ó, ú, etc...), it just ignores it.

I already added the intended languages to the scribble preferences, but it mades no discernible difference.

I'm disappointed, it's really sad. Scribble was the most exciting characteristic of iPadOS 14 for me.

sadly they only work with English and Chinese currently, as far as I’m aware of.

In the scribble preferences you can add different languages, but the problem is it defaults to English when it shouldn't.

I’ve added second language (Indonesian) to my keyboards settings, but couldn’t find the scribble preferences to add different languages. Mind pointing the route for that?

Sure... my bad, it's not in Pencil/scribble preferences (there, the iPad only lists English).

In general, language & region you choose separate languages for the system. This is independent of the keyboards. When I started playing with scribble it just recognized English, and after adding different languages it improved. It is still lacking, though.

Add: I finally found Catalan:D

Already adding second language. Still not recognizing my second language.
Does it needs to be the system language? I would hate to change the system language to my second language.

I thought I would try and reply with the pencil, I think this is ok. Will require a lot more practice ! Still not sure hour a to leave live space or create a new paragraph. I do think it will be handy when working with pencil to quickly do simple things instead of connecting to my m. k, B.

Maybe it does and that's why it's failing to properly recognize everything in spanish. Right now, with English first and spanish second, it seems to recognize from 75%-95% of the things I write.

Then again, with the USA full of my paisanos, spanish is just much more prevalent in the states than Indonesian, and that may account for the differences I perceive. Or maybe it's just placebo and it doesn't work at all.

Yeah possibly. Indonesian haven't even got Siri language supports.

To create a space between letters, just slice it with vertical line in between.
Also vertical slice to erase gap between letters or words.
To add paragraph, tap on the Pencil menu and tap the return button.
Yeah I'ts been demoed On the new Procreate app version 5x beta, we can scribble on menu like renaming layers. It'll be convenient.

I'm absolutely baffled at how well my watch series 1 works with scribble and my big, fat finger. It is so uncanny I often use it to type out one to six word sentences in response to texts. And oh the lag ... but it still works!

How do you like using it on the iPad?
