I can understand if you used the Apple Pencil a lot before Scribble, then this is a nice feature to allow you to input text without putting the pencil down. On the other hand, if you rarely used the Pencil before Scribble, I am not sure this new feature is going to be very useful to you.

For my case, the only time I use the Pencil is to markup documents. But, I don’t really need an expensive $100 Apple Pencil to use the markup tool. I can highlight and circle text with a cheap capacitive stylus or my stupid finger. If I need to make a note, I can insert Text using the “+” button on the markup tool.

So, after almost a week of use, I am still not sure what Scribble does for my use case. This is my situation, so YMMV.

That is very true for your use case. You seems to be not needing the pencil from the start.

By the way,

iWork is here with scribble update.
Working fine with pages and keynote. But can't scribble on numbers cell.

I think you are right. The Apple Pencil is overkill for me.

I finally figure it out by myself. The pencil scrolling was turned on, that’s why scribble is not showing. Can switch this in the numbers’ pencil settings. Even there’s an option to double tap the pencil to toggle this function on and off. neat!

I wish Scribble had a on/off method that was on the control center or a hot key. I find it more annoying when having it on for constant unintentionally adding text into fields. I use the pencil as a stylus for my majority of use with the iPP.

I guess I leave it turned off until I need it.

Interestingly for me, I too only used the Pencil for markup. But now with Scribble, I'm finding I'm using my Pencil a lot more. But I still can't see myself using solely using the Pencil. As the name implies, it really is a Scribble usage but I am definitely scribbling a lot more now. But will the Pencil replace type for me? No. My hands gets too cramped from writing too long. I can handle short bursts of scribbling well and this new feature fits me best~

So far I have better results with Nebo though. I’ll give it another few runs to see if that changes.

I had not tested it a lot still but for now Scribble is doing better than I expected to be honest. Granted I do not use it for long text or writing posts here. I use it mostly to write notes in books app and so far it has like 95% accuracy. I expected worse given my handwriting.
I have not used Nebo so I cannot compare properly. I don't find this feature a must but it is nice to have when I read books in the Book app and I want to add notes to highlighted text.

Thanks for that reference to Books. I use Books extensively to read epub docs and till now I have been inserting notes by pulling up the KB. After reading your post, I tried the Pencil, and it works! This is very convenient for me. Thanks again!

Cool! I must admit I did not think about this use case when they announced this feature until this week. I tried it this week and I liked the experience. Glad that it works for you too!
