I am on a 6+. Got it when it was the top model, exactly because of the size. Never had a top model before (or after, obviously). 6 years, battery replaced 2 years ago, and the only problem is the mute switch, which recently broke.
I hate notches or any other kind of funky shaped display, so if Apple doesn't sell this SE2+, when the time comes I'll source an 8+. End of story.

I dont think it will be a 8+ Camera. Likely the same Single Lens Camera in SE. ( And I am guessing it will be 5.4" instead of 5.5" with 326 PPI instead of 400PPI )

But like I said in another post, the whole SE range next year will likely have the Sensor and Lens from XR, so you should also get Night Mode as well. So in part a small upgrade, and the Plus wouldn't really be a "Plus" any more. It is simply a bigger screen. Due to the way Apple needs to tweak its lens, layout and may be LCD tech, I am hoping the SE will actually be a tweaked design rather than a reused 8+ Design.

Hopefully Ming will have some news for us soon.

Just want to mention a common misconception here, ( and everywhere ) ˜5.4" on iPhone 8+ is actually a bigger screen than the 5.4" iPhone 12 because of the different screen ratio. It is 12.3% larger in area,

lets assuming the SE Plus follows the same pattern as SE2, A13 drop in same physical optics as before but much better pics from Image processing.

with a $100 price hike being Plus, and released a year later due to Covid pushback, Fall release of iPhones, and spreading out releases.

...Would this do it for you Plus enthusiasts or would you want more from it?
Nope.
Right now, the current SE is such a good deal because at $399, the closest A13 phone, the iPhone 11, is $300 more.

But by 2021, the iPhone 11 would've dropped in price to ~$549 - $599. iPhone 11 will give you better iPhone 11 Pro level main camera, night mode, FaceID, better front facing camera, more RAM, better IP68, just for an extra $50-100 over your proposed $499 SE Plus.

Imo, Apple is saving the ~$500 price point for the iPhone 11, removing the XR. After the iPhone 12 announcement, this is my guess for the lineup
- iPhone SE 2020: $399
- iPhone 11: $549
- iPhone 12 family: starts from $649 and up

Cleaner lineup with A13 being the minimum and mid-range and A14 + 5G for the rest.

Of course, I can be totally off. That's the fun in discussing rumors, we can make these guessing game. :D

I think XR is next on the chopping block naturally anyways.

Having SE2 / 11 price drop / clearing the 11 Pro's to make way for all 12's makes the most sense as the late 2020 lineup.

If all this in fact comes to pass, the selling price in my mind, should be $449. I would buy a few as a present for family members who still have 6s.

If the SE Plus came with:

  • 5G
  • Slightly better battery
  • An improved screen (even mildly improved, not 7 year old tech by the time of release)
  • A13 chip (18 months old by the time of release)
Still in the same form as a 6/7/8 Plus and with Touch ID, I'd go for it. I think that's fair for $499.

The screen is from 2016 starting with 7/7+, not 7 years old. P3 color gamut.

Heck, even 1080p. The SE2/11/XR can't match that.

I think that would be asking too much. The SE2 Plus seems to a replacement for XR at a lower price.

For those like me that already have an 8+, I'd say no to that, but if they release such a thing with the 8 Plus Dual cameras, they better enable the photo effects in the 8 Plus at the same time or it will look like Apple deliberately tried to downgrade a once premium product and I would smell a class action there for sure. If the SE now can do photo effects in software, then sure the 8 Plus itself should be able to also. I just don't believe that each A chip variation is seriously that much faster after 3 different iPhones. Only my original iPhone acted like a dog when trying to list something for sale on Ebay, but that thing was incredible for its time and I remember being the only person at the beach who could pull up live weather radar to know when it was time to leave the beach. I distinctly remember people looking at me like I was nuts at the time telling them to get off the beach due to big storm coming in about 3-5 min since I got the original iPhone on like Day 1 and nobody had one or anything like it on the beach. :D

Anyone that expects their older device to get updates to give it the same functionality as a new device is setting themselves up for disappointment. Nothing is being 'downgraded'. The old device still does what it was sold to do. The class action remark is just silly.

Not anymore. I would have jumped it if it would have released beside SE2020, but now I already have TouchID for at work and when I am out in stores.

I'm pretty tired of paying >$1000 for a phone. So I would highly consider any SE Plus version. Apple's LCD displays are plenty good for me.
I don't even mind the regular SE2020. It isn't as hard to read as I thought compared to Maxes especially with text size up. The only issue is that there is less on the screen vertically. And even then the only time I really notice is when I hold on an email notification I want to delete and the delete option is off the bottom of the screen. Wish you could reorder the choices or hide certain ones somehow.

I know what I’m saying is obvious, but we’ve hit a ‘plateau mark‘ with smart phones. Even carriers with ‘subsidized monthly payments’ really doesn’t change anything in terms of Making a ~$1000 smart phone more attractive, it just makes it ‘easier‘ to pay for, but As long as consumers continue to pay Apple prices for a smart phone, they’ll continue keep charging over $1000. Some of us appreciate newer technology, but now that North America is in a serious recession, A $1000 iPhone is probably the last option on somebody‘s spending list.

I do think the Se Plus will be a reality in 2021, I just think it would’ve made more sense if Apple could have launched it specifically next to the 4.7 SE2, but With the recent discontinuation of the iPhone 8+, it’s obvious the SE Plus would be next in line, as both those phones can’t co-exist next to each other in their lineup.
