I reset my phone and got a new phone, neither helped. My friend who set up as new had no issues.

Now, I just had something magical happen…

SUDDENLY ALL OF MY SEARCH RESULTS ARE APPEARING!

Pictures and links history are also there, and even have a message at the bottom that they’re indexing.

I have no idea what finally kickstarted this process, but I’m happy!

iOS 17.1b2 if it makes any difference. Although yesterday there was still no change, and everything was still missing.
That is good! I got a reply via Feedback that there was a change in the B2 but not able to confirm as I deleted all my older messages.

Did you install 17.1b2 yesterday? Indexing occurs when charging so if you plugged in overnight and they fixed it in 17.1b2 that would explain it.

In the meantime. I’m on 17.0.3 and an attachment I keep deleting off my iPhone keeps coming back. It’s not in the message thread as I deleted the message days ago. It only shows up when I tap on the profile pick of someone I’m messaging. I delete it. Next day it’s back.
I installed it on Tuesday, but barely had the phone plugged in since then. I charged it for an hour last night, and then again this morning. Gonna put it back on now lol.

Is there a way to do an advanced search in Message? I’m on 17.1b2.
What do you mean by advanced search? I believe it’s just a basic word search, no other options. But it will also show pictures and links that match the words as well.

I want to search between two dates.

I believe I fixed the issue on my 15 pro max 17.0.3 by rebuilding search index.
Here is what I did.

Setting - Siri and search - mesaages - turn off show app in search and show content in search (under while searching)

Restart iPhone and turn on those settings.
iMessage will start rebuilding index and should be able to see old messages once index is finished. Good luck!

Just to add I didn’t have iCloud message enabled, only local message.

That doesn’t work. At least not under 17.0.3. I’ve seen reports it works in 17.1b3.

I tried all of that, along with everything else I found online, and nothing works. The only thing that fixed it for me was iOS 17.1 beta 2.

I’ve also noticed recently that the “Shared With You” feature isn’t working at all on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I’m seeing a “Shared With You” section in the “For You” tab on my iPad, but that entire section is missing on my iPhone. I checked and shared is enabled for photos.

Since that’s all related to message indexing I’m wondering if people on the 17.1 beta are seeing that section?

My pictures mostly came back but began disappearing after a while. Also some threads didn't come back at all.

17.1 RC fixed the issue for me, can see messages as far as 2010, index was quiet fast too, only 30 mins charge and it started showing.

Mine took longer I have 117 gb but then they changed order over night and many disappeared

leave the iPhone plugged in overnight - as much as thats not so great for the battery. iOS will index the whole device.
Nothing will happen leaving it plugged in overnight. Not sure why people can not accept that battery tech is way better than it was 20 years ago.

I have installed 17.1, but no change yet. How long does it take to index again? Or do I have to force it to start?

Indexing has a low priority and only happens when charging and locked. If you just installed 17.1 the phone will be busy doing stuff for a while. I’d recommend just charging it overnight tonight. It should be done indexing by morning.

I can confirm 17.1 fixes this. I updated my 15 Pro Max, waited about 5 minutes and then threw it on a charger. I checked about 25 to 30 minutes later and I can find old messages and photos.

The Shared with You section in the Photos app is still completely missing on my 15 Pro Max though (it’s on my iPad and Mac). I’m hoping that shows up at some point.

I believe you should also be on Wi-Fi while plugged in and locked. Hopefully this release fixes the bug for everyone!

With 17.1 today pictures came back during indexing, and some went away. Starting indexing manually brought some back again. This isn’t completely fixed in my opinion.

The Shared With You section appeared in Photos and populated overnight.

came here from another thread. trying steps someone mentioned to me in another thread. i will report back to see if it works
