It's about 1.8 GB in size from Software Update.. still in the middle of install, looks like it did a BootROM update as I noted the generic thermometer rush across the screen, then a second reboot to the Catalina porthole screen with 27 minutes remaining..

Nothing was in the readme as usual..

Seems to work ok, BootROM updated on my 13-inch rMBP 2015 from 424.0.0.0.0 to 425.0.0.0.0

I'm about to run this security update on a 2019 MBP MacBookPro15,3 which before update we have
Boot ROM Version: 1037.147.4.0.0 (iBridge: 17.16.16610.0.0,0)

We'll see where we're at after...

My mid-2012 MacBook Pro seemed to hesitate quite a lot, but it works.

This was a very weird update process, after clicking restart, it stuck for 2 minutes on my desktop, while desktop background was visible and nothing else, and no indication that I have to wait or if it's doing anything!
After a few minutes it finally restarted to update page, in which it was again stuck for about 5 minutes with no indication of how much time remaining (a single progress bar that appeared to be stuck)!
Everything went back to normal after that, and the remaining time to update was shown and progress bar was moving.

It was also a surprise after the restart to suddenly hear a loud chime in the middle of the night.

P.S. I'm on a 2020 Macbook Pro.

I'm having a LOT of problems booting from my external SSD now after installing this on my late 2013 iMac. Holding down the option key whilst booting only shows me my internal fusion drive. The SSD and my Time Machine drive do not show up. When I am in Finder they are accessible as nowmal.

I've reset the NV/PRAM already, hooked the SSD up as the only external and sometimes it shows up and I can boot into it, but after a restart it's not showing up again.. I am out of ideas on how to fix this, any ideas?

It was a very weird update from beginning to end on my 2012 rMBP.
Very stuttery and multi-staged, it seemed. It looked like it got stuck a couple of times. My update was 1.38GB and my boot rom is now version 262.0.0.0.0 but I don't know what it was before.
It also seems to have created an "update" volume as well - just like Big Sur does.

Phew! At least it wasn't just me. I thought my iMac was going to be bricked. I don't think I've ever had such a weird update procedure before.

Took a little time to install (about~30min) and a few reboots/installation screens, but went smoothly. My 2013 Air has now an updated Boot ROM Version: 429.0.0.0.0.

Great timing since i was thinking of installing my new NVME drive but I would get those sleep issues the old Boot ROM had!

There's no BootROM change for the 5,1 because the 5,1 only runs Catalina if you use one of the tools to allow unsupported installs.

Similar problem with my late 2013 iMac, here. I’ve tried reformatting the external ssd and attempted to reinstall Catalina on this drive. The installation doesn’t take and the drive, while healthy and able to store data, will not function as a bootable startup. I’m trying a lengthy Time Machine restore onto the ssd now. PS I read another solution for user who had same problem. After 3x NV/PRAM resets, the external drive was then recognised as a startup source and they could run with this as before.

But has anyone been successful in updating to 19H114 on a cMP 5,1? If so, how?
I updated to Catalina with dosdude's patcher, and am using CatalinaOTAswufix.app for updates (Safari, etc.). When I try to install the Security update, it just restarts my Mac and doesn't do anything (it remains on 19H15)

Has anyone tried using DosDude1's macOS Catalina Patcher to try to download the 19H114 version?

The link you found is for the correct update. Disregard the differences in file size and version; there's only one Security Update 2020-001 for Catalina, and it actually requires 10.15.7.
