Seem like most Iphones have uneven backlight--White to Yellowish Hue near bottom.

My 1st post but I've been a long time lurker.

I have an iphone and my friend does as well. Both of us have noticed that there seems to be uneven backlighting on both our phones and it's especially annoying when we read in landscape on Safari. Starting from the top it's all white which is of course what color it should be, but near the bottom (referring to the direction of the home button), it's yellowish. Very subtle but nonetheless annoying, I also went to the AT&T store to see their Iphone on display and it has it too it seems. It's especially noticeable in a dark setting (i.e. right before I go to bed and read some RSS fees). I'm wondering if this is a defect or do you guys see it as well.

Like I said, subtle but it's definitely there. Anyone else?

So, you are aware of 2 of 1 million+ with this problem and the title you come-up with is; "most iPhones" ?

As of this reply saying "no, mine doesn't have the problem" ... you are very close to being statistically incorrect.:p

this is a VERY subjective judgment. Some people are more sensitive to these things, and everybody have different standard of "uneven".

If your screen is comparable to other iPhones, or other large screen smartphones, then its probably ok.

Man, what's up with the hostility? I was simply bringing up an issue that I thought was note worthy.

My friend and I both bought our phones at separate times, on different dates. Not to mention the AT&T store where I bought it had the issue as well. I don't know about you, but when it's on an LCD monitor I guess it's ok, but for a device that's 3.5" big, you definitely notice it's there.

Well.. I'm glad you're not an optometrist. :D Anyone else? Please try this in a dark setting?

How was that hostile? Sheez, a little thin skinned? Say "MOST" an you'll get some reaction when basing the opinion on just .0000000012% of phones sold :)

Well, looks like I'll be heading to the apple store tomorrow then. Not to mention my super sucky battery life. After less than 2 hours of use, I have only 50% left. And that's on medium brightness too with auto-adjust.

There is another post where someone is mentioning that they have a screen bleed. Looks like this might be a problem...you might want to read the other post. Good luck! :)

My experience with Apple tech support is generally positive. I've had a few minor defects on MB's and they've been corrected very professionally.
 
My iphone does indeed have this problem. It is a strange hue at the bottom of the screen that seems off colored or something. It's minor I suppose but after paying $599 plus tax the minor gripes me. I doubt I will take it back unless others do and have positive results.
 
This is an EXTREMELY subjective observation. I'm pretty sure everyone has this "problem" but only half the people notice it. After owning multiple smartphones/PDAs I can tell you the iPhone has the brightest and most colorful screen of any device I've used.

I can't find this on mine, but I'm obsessive enough that if I concentrate, I'm sure to find some yellow on what I thought was a perfect screen.
 
My iPhone has a yellow splotch (which is more then just screen bleed) going a quarter of the way down the screen on the upper left side. It's only visible on a white background (a webpage, mostly). Now that I see it, I always notice it and it's fairly annoying. I'm going to see what an Apple rep has to say about it today.

Also, my iPhone freezes probably a quarter of the time while coming out of sleep mode, which is a much bigger issue since I've missed 2-3 calls because my phone froze up while trying to answer them.
 
Ok, so I just got back from the apple store and the rep there in fact exchanged it for a new one for me. The reason I was able to do this was because the main issue I had with the Iphone was the battery. Like I said before, after a full charge I could only get 2 hours of use out of it before it ran down to 50% which is absolutely ridiculous considering what other people are getting and the advertisements in the news. Not to mention backlight was at 50% with auto adjust and I was simply browsing a web page.

Now, onto the yellow hue thing.

YES, it still has it. So now considering that both my friend and I have it, the AT&T store with the Iphone on display has it, and this new one that I just got today has it. I can CONFIDENTLY say that it's just the make of the model. At the bottom near the "home button", approximately one quarter at the bottom, the color is yellowish. You will notice it when browsing the web in landscape mode. IT IS there but some of you might not notice it because we're all different people and some of us are more sensitive than others (and NO, I'm not EMO). Perhaps I am one of those people with more acute cones in my retina, it's a curse I guess. But as I get older I guess I will notice it less due to the deterioration of the eyes in general. Anyone else?

Just thought I'd mention, I'm 22. I'd like to see some correlation between those who notice it and their age. Anyone care to share? Thanks all.

If its "subtle", I'd say that's its not REALLY there at all (in the "oh my god, somethings wrong" sense). Depending on the orientation of the display, a number of colors stand out.

I get a perfect white display if I hold it about a foot from my face, flush with my viewing plane (its face parallel with mine), and tilt it back slightly (perfect). Other positions yield very subtle changes in the coloring. I can make the screen turn almost entirely beige by titling it About 10 degrees toward me (from a completely face-to-face angle position), and then twisting it about 10 degrees so that it faces slightly to the right of me. The point being... keep playing with it. Have fun with the colors. When you're done, get back to using your iPhone and not noticing the stuff at all.

It's like I said... tilt it around to another position and it should vanish. You're noticing how the technology works. It's not some amazing defect... its just the type of display.
