IDK but to me the iPhone HD should have been last year. With the rumors of multitasking, better screen res, and front facing camera don't seem to stand out to me. Don't get me wrong it will be nice to have these features straight from apple. All these features are already on some of the other phones out there, with the difference being apples software will be better. I wonder what apple can do to keep themselves one step ahead of the competition? But no matter what ill still buy a new iPhone every year.

Maybe it should have been here a year earlier, but what is the point of thinking about it? What matters is today and the future- not what could've been. At the time of the 3GS, it had as good a spec as any phone out. The chips in the Droid and Nexus One didn't come out until after the 3GS was released. The main argument is multitasking, but like I said, that is apparently the past.

As for the advantage in software, that is the most important. Without software all you have is a blank screen. The software is what makes these touchscreen phones important. It's what the iPhone will always have over Android. Android is a good OS but there has never been an open OS that is as good as a proprietary one. From well-respected rumors the iPhone looks to been on top on software where it was once was arguable.

As for the freedom of the open OS, it's not all that open. When a carrier like Verizon controls the update to your phone, it causes a conflict of interest and another form of control.

I have to agree with someone from Texas who's a Cowboys fan. I don't see this rumored new phone being that much of a wow.

Is there anything else you want from the rumors? It has the features everyone was asking for. Keep in mind that these rumors have come from the two most well-respected Mac sites.

Okay. Let's say these new features are a wow. Do you want that and even worse battery life?

So, you get HD. However, it's on this little screen? I know many think the iPhone is fine as is, but I would've liked a bigger screen. Sue me for being old.

I actually forgot what the other rumor was. Oh, a front facing camera. Nice toy I guess. I guess if all your friends have the phone, it'll work. Or you call someone when they're near their computer and have Skype. However, maybe that's how SMS was when it got started. I'd like it to take off, but it's going to be awhile, IMO.

That leaves multi-tasking. That should've been here last year. If they don't cripple it somehow, sure that'll be a good thing. We'll see.

So, what would I want? GREAT battery. Bigger screen. But, the biggest thing I'd like to see and I know we're not ever going to get, is a more open OS. Let the user have options. If the user wants to have too many things on at once, it's their battery. A great battery would do a lot to making this more of a reality (as well as the better processor that's needed....hence great battery). If anything give the user more than they currently have not some Apple controlled device that led to jailbreaking.

Apple's new iPhone better be a "wow". The Sprint EVO 4G looks so damn amazing. Makes my Nexus One look like a work in progress rofl.

I know nexus one came out towards the end of this iPhone cycle, but that's good maybe it will push apple to out do them hardware wise, apple OS is still #1 to me. About a year ago I had always wondered why these phone company's never could just look at an iPhone and tell themselves "lets just out do them", but now it seems they are almost on the same leve.

You said the main argument is multitasking, that has been out for 2 years on a JB iPhone, but the 3gS handles it alot better than the 3g.

It's all BS in the end. If the new iPhone comes out and surpasses all other phones out in most ways, people will say they expected more. Typical BS that always ensues this time of year.

Only difference is now people are taking a head start.

Every year, actually every few months, there's another super-specced phone. Specs never have and never will carry the day except with a few tech geeks who have to have the fastest everything. It's all about the software. The hardware just has to be able to allow the software to run smoothly and efficiently.

Also, LOL at this thread's premise. That's what people said about the 3G and the 3GS. There's just no pleasing some people.

We don't know the battery life hit yet. The iPad runs at 1Ghz so Apple must have a reason to develop their own chip because it is at par with other processors used by competing companies. My guess is battery life which is a reason they've always cited against multitasking and it's an issue that plagues the Nexus One. Also, Jobs personally, answered this question when emailed about the iPads' battery life. As to the HD reference, I think it will refer to 720p video recording and not screen resolution which isn't HD.

As to a bigger screen size, I think most of you guys on this thread forget that women actually would want to use this device. They already have small fingers and it's already too big in some cases. It will come to point where they'll have to use it like an iPad.

Yea i guess longer battery life will be a "wow" factor for me at least.

I think you already answered your own question.
After all these years apples OS is still on top, and probably will always be. Its what else they can add to it to give us a wow factor.

It's all BS in the end. If the new iPhone comes out and surpasses all other phones out in most ways, people will say they expected more. Typical BS that always ensues this time of year.

Your absolutely right. We always expect more from what apple gives us every year, but thats what we expect from apple to keep them ahead of the competition. Remember we just got video recording and mms less than a year ago.

I'm just assuming, since it wasn't mentioned in the rumor article. For all we know, it's all BS. I just would've thought that would be mentioned, if they did something to the battery.

I seriously didn't know women complained about it being too big. :)

Right now the details are murky but most likely accurate. We didn't know what the battery life was on the iPad or the MBPs with the sealed battery.

I know Erica Sadun (TUAW & jailbreakers aficionado) didn't buy an iPhone initially because of the screen size nor did my girlfriend look particularly comfortable when sifting through my contacts on the iPhone. That could be for other reasons though (I didn't do anything).

As I try to tell all my PC fanboy friends when pressed;
Apple's never really been on the forefront of new technologies, they've just always implemented the best of current technologies in a far better way then anyone else. In my opinion, they're about doing things smarter and more elegantly... Apple sees what people actually use, what trends arise and figures out how to do it better... I don't need to have the newest, but I do enjoy having the best.

With multitasking rumored to come i can also bet that better battery life will be included. Wasn't bad battery life the reason apple didn't include multitasking in the past?

I'm not talking about better battery life to offset multi-tasking. I want a battery that can go more than a day on one charge.

If you mean 24hr. battery life then I'd recommend either of two things:

1. Don't multitask, use the webcam or record video.

2. Get a Blackberry and use a GUI that looks like it was made in the first half of this decade. Because of their patented servers they will always have an advantage in that respect over the competition.

It is the great thing about choice. You can choose how to use your device according to your needs.

If I upgrade I'll be coming from a 3G. It seems to me to be a major upgrade.

Compared to what is already out now(other phones), meh...

They'll be some surprise Apple has up their sleeve that will wow us. I hope so anyways.

Or put a better battery in it.

In the last year or two it seems like apple has put a better battery in all their products that require one. I guess it has to do with better battery technology.

You're a funny guy, seriously. We don't know what the battery life is yet. The only kind of battery that serves better battery life are silver-zinc batteries. Apple may not be using them because they don't want their customers engulfed in flames. Or it may not be ready yet for consumer use. Or it may be too expensive.

As of right now the iPhone has better battery life potential than an Android device because the battery is sealed and not replaceable. It leaves them extra space to add more cells.

Personally I think the hardware has gotten to the point where easily anticipated increases each year are alright, I'm more excited to see OS 4.0.
Sure a bigger screen would be nice, maybe a bigger battery or a faster processor to handle new apps that will undoubtedly be more demanding, but I feel the OS is holding it back a bit.

Don't get me wrong, its in the top 2, but android is really looking good lately. Multitasking is something that shouldn't be that hard to implement. Several options for app layouts would also be great, and the ability to have a widget or two on the lockscreen would impress a lot of people.

Sorry if this has been repeated to death but its the most logical option to me.
