I am a hoarder so I very rarely sell any of my gadgets to buy new ones. I just save up and live cheaply for however many months it takes. Luckily I can do this as a) I have no kids b) my fiance doesn't live with me, so I have no one to affect but myself - and even if he did, he practises this method to get gadgets too.

I was saving up to put a bath in the upstairs en suite in my house until the iPad was announced. Now it's "bye bye new bathroom, hello iPad". ;)

I'm one for selling my old laptop to help offset the cost of a new one, but I'm not so sure about selling "stuff" to help pay for an iPad. On one level something doesn't seem quite right with that. Not necessarily with the offsetting the cost part but perhaps having too much stuff so you don't have the funds in the first place.

Given that we have to endure a 60-90 (maybe even longer) wait for the model, it has given me ample time to make sure I have sufficient funds in the bank for the iPad. Now I just have to learn to patiently wait :D

Trying to sell my netbooks but nobody will freaking buy them. Even at nearly give away prices.

:(

I actually had really good luck selling my Netbook for 200, which is pure profit for me as it was won from Engadget.

Then I sold my first gen iPod touch for 75, this was both 2 days after the iPad was announced.

Since then I've sold flash drives, old games, etc.

About a week ago I sold enough stuff to cover the 499+ tax that the iPad demands. So I'm pretty sold on the iPad.

Immediately following the announcement, I put numerous PS3 and DS games from the past year up for sale on eBay....

Games -- $180

Then I put a metal detector on eBay which was in very good condition. My wife bought it for me 4 years ago for $599. I sold it for $505. Seriously

Metal Detector -- $505

So I'm pretty much there but need a couple hundred to make up the difference, taxes, and a couple accessories..... Sooo... I'll be putting my EEE 1000HE with 2gb ram on Ebay sometime in the next week or so.

If I do get an iPad I'm going to sell my old dell laptop. Not to buy the iPad, but I'll never use it again (barely use it now). I don't like to keep things I don't/won't use. Probably will get rid of it anyway.

Since I got my Mac Pro about a year ago I've only touched my MacBook to surf the internet while watching TV, so I will probably sell my MacBook and use the funds to buy an iPad.

Because people are selling stuff for a product they've never even held before?

I don't see any issue with doing that, nor find it funny/amusing and I bet everyone else in this thread exception of about two people would agree too. The stuff I sold was a bunch of useless crap that I never used that could fetch high $$ and get the money I needed.

Probably swap my touch for a nano once I buy an iPad, and might sell the netbook if I find no other use for it, or I will hang on to it and give it to my son next year when he's old enough to use a computer without drooling or putting a fist/food through it (he's two :p).

Because people are selling stuff for a product they've never even held before?

I would of sold the stuff anyway so why not now. Why should I spend the money on the iPad when I can sell my black macbook which I never use, sell my Kindle which I hardly use (gift given to me) and sell my apple TV which is never used because its the one Apple product that truly sucks and gets no love. Don't see anything funny really just common sense if I can maximize my money by moving things Im not going to use to get something that combines the main functions of all three then why not??
