MP 1,1-5,1 Sequoia on the 5,1

Now, that OCLP 2.0.0 is out, i gave the latest Beta of Sequoia a try on my 5,1 Single, which i have to tinker around with new OSes etc.

Worked fine after running the root patches. WIFI, Polaris GPU, BT, all fine!

...but migrating the user from the former Sonama install results in a bootloop. No matter if the migration was initiated from the installation-process or later from the running system.

Any known solutions fo this? Or is this just not possible?

I had this issue with previous versions past Montery. I duped Monterey and installed over it.
You could also Carbon Copy clone the data portion of your running version and install on the data clone. The macOS installer will usually handle that correctly..

I even cloned my whole Sonoma install via CCC "Legacy Bootable Copy Assistant" and installed Sequoia right over it. Works like a charm!

Only thing: At least in my case the mac needed boot from some other boot device, not the volume to be cloned. Trying to clone the boot volume resulted in some APFS-errors.

But now "migration" is done! Thanks for the advice!

I'm anticipating the next point version, the install on my 5,1 over a vanilla Monterey install, worked fine, OCLP 2.01, Sequoia 5.0 OTA.

Then after a bit of configuring and changing of wallpapers, it started bogging down.

I've a Sapphire RX590 Nitro, and this or the AVX issues, is what my gut tells me is the problem.

I dual boot into Monterey as my daily driver which works beautifully.

I may try reinstalling Sequoia and OCLP over this bogged down Sequoia iteration in the interim, for giggles.

I can't confirm,

I reinstalled Sequoia and OCLP over the initial install and it just bogged down again to the point of "good bye"

So I'm going to reset the Fusion drive and install a vanilla Sonoma and see if I can keep that running.

Sequoia on the 5,1 will have to wait until I see some positive reports or point upgrades.,

Using nightly OCLP and Sequoia beta, my Logitech Cam worked fine. However, I have run into audio issues that require reconnection of the USB port. My hub has a switch for each port, making that easy.
Traveling now, will not update to final versions until I get back.

Also, I saw on social networks that there was a problem with the firewall (not related to 5.1, everyone has a problem), that the Music (ex iTunes) app crashes, and this problem with USB cameras, no one has yet confirmed which ones work and which ones don't . If any of you have any experience to share - go ahead!

For now, I use Sonoma 14.7 and it works beautifully and I have no problems.

I've now reverted to a Daily Driver of Monterey and OCLP on my 5,1.

I nuked the other disk with Sequoia on it, cloned my Monterey install and upped it to Sonoma, I''ll bed in the Sonoma for a while, whilst watching the ether, for Sequoia on 5,1 reports and when all is well, with the Sonoma install and if reports seem positive, I'll do the OTA Sequoia update at that time. (maybe a USB Flash Drive with OCLP Sequoia install is the way to go).

note: I did some fishing and found out which versions of Photoshop , FCpro etc were the first to run on Monterey and I'll install these on the Sonoma to see if they work, because they "may" not require AVX/AVX2. They also may not install on Sonoma...

You have a early-2009 Mac Pro, so, not a problem that affects you.

Again, you have a METAL supported GPU, so, not a problem that affects you.

I gave up putting anything on the Fusion drive. So I split it and re-partitioned the 500Gb SSD.

A vanilla install of Sequioa via OCLP USB flash drive worked. But any time I went near the wallpaper setting or the screen saver setting it hung.

Rebooting and re installing has given me a Sequoia that works, so long as I don't try the wallpaper setting or the screen saver setting.

I installed Photosop 2022 and it works so, I'll put on some more software on as I get time and report back.

I don't know what the wallpaper setting or the screen saver setting has to do with the instability, but if I touch either the result is a hang.

You are not using the vanilla term correctly. Vanilla = fully supported install, without any hacks.

OCLP installs are root patched with MacPro5,1, so, you can't use the term.

For interest I started again with a clean install and then the OCLP post install root patches, and OCLP install, it seemed quite zippy, but again I changed a wallpaper and it slowed down and hung.

So for now I think I'll wait for 15.1

with this OCLP sequoisa i am prevented booting into older Mac OS like Mojave or Mavericks,
also Windows 10 does not longer show up int BootPicker,

I had issues with the wallpaper-settings too.

Was able to solve them by reverting and repatching root patches via OCLP. I could change the wallpaper after.

But screensaver does not work at all. Even does not @ Sonoma.

again, just for interest:

Some time ago, I had a 3 monitor set up for DCSWorld (when booted into Win10 via Bootcamp) and it worked just fine with Sonoma, I quite liked having three different screensavers (Whale/Sharks/Dolphins) running on the three monitors. But the AVX/AVX2 issues killed my faith in a Sonoma install.

I might get the 3rd monitor out again, stress test myself....

OCLP 2.0.2 out today and now Sequoia - a clean install - is seemingly working on my 5,1 - wallpapers, screensavers and everything! Quite smooth and zippy.

One thing that may have a bearing, or not, is the Dell 34" monitor can be set to 60/100/120 Hz in display settings, I noticed it was a little blue/grey so I changed the setting to 120Hz and back to 100 and then to 120 and got better colour. I don't know if this matters for speed and fluidity.

Now I'm going to add Photoshop, FCPro, Logic, Motion, et al, one by one and test for Sequoia happiness as I go.

The versions of the software I'll be installing, are the ones I fished out as being the first to run on Monterey, hopefully avoiding the AVX/AVX2 issues.

Next issue: Cannot enter Apple ID in system settings "email or phone number" field, cannot even select the field to allow entry.

Solution that worked for me - Login via the App Store then when logged in - go back to system settings to fire up iCloud.

Something that thinking back, is new to me: I've been applying OCLP root patches over and over, thinking that I'm getting a complete new set everytime.

Correct me if I'm wrong, reverting the root patches means that OCLP looks at the computer and hardware and then after "revert" the next "apply", downloads and or applies a complete new set for the hardware and software configuration.
