If you restore from a backup, it’ll be like you never even switched phones. Everything will be exactly as you left it on the previous device. Apps, photos, messages, calls, literally everything. The only thing you have to do is set up Face ID, and maybe re-enter a few app passwords. There’s truly no reason not to do this. Anything else is just a waste of time.

... and if you *do* have an issue, you can always reset the device and set up as new if you wish.

Kinda not seeing any reason not to restore from backup unless you just have time on your hands and nothing better to do with it.

Curious to know if anyone has info on whether restore from backup, or side-by-side transfers, will correctly move over MFA token generator apps (like Google Authenticator for example).

Why is this better than a back up?

any difference
Depends on which way you apply the backup. OTA icloud save or a full backup from iTunes.

Which method is best?

The simplest solution for most users is to use the iPhone Migration Tool by choosing Transfer from iPhone during Quick Setup. This will get all your data from your old iPhone to your new one, including local copies of photos and videos, Health data, passwords stored in Keychain, and more. It takes awhile, but in the long run, it’s actually a time saver.

When you choose Download from iCloud, you’ll be up and running very quickly—as little as five minutes in most cases. But you’re not fully up and running. Sure, you can use your new phone, but it’s going to have to download a lot of data in the background, and that might take hours. You may find yourself re-entering passwords you thought you had stored in Keychain or missing some data in the Health app. The Transfer from iPhone option takes longer to get started, but is far more complete.

Restoring from an encrypted backup in iTunes (or the Mac Finder in macOS Catalina or later) is both fast and complete, and is recommended if you have the ability to do so. But you’re not always near your computer or have the free storage space on it to make a backup.

For me, Side by side transferred over both the Google Auth and Authy apps and all connected sites and data. I still have codes in both for sites that I know I have not accessed since getting the 12pro.

isn’t the set up from iCloud back up the recommended in iOS 15.
What are the options screen when you get a new devices.

I currently have an XR and I am getting a 13 Pro tomorrow.
I have an occasional issue with my XR whereby an app will no longer scroll and I have to switch away from the app and then go back to the non scrolling app and then it works. This happens on Find My as well as 3rd party apps like YouTube.
So my question is if this is a bug in my settings would the issue come across to the new phone on a restore?
